Downloading 2160p60 video files from YouTube?

I think technically this might be against the rules. Sure you can rip music or download videos etc.. but even if just being used for later viewing it is still taking someone else's IP and using it in a way they didn't necessarily intend.

He's got a valid case though. This is hardly piracy. As a Youtuber I'd happily allow folks to enjoy my content in this manner if their internet is a bit sluggish. Obviously many people are greedy twits though.

there is some bit in their terms of service basically saying that you can't download content unless you see a download link

I can see their point of view, absolutely, but *personally* I wouldn't have an issue with it. I think this really is down to the content creator, however Google (sorry, Alphabet, lol) are obviously doung the right thing from a business perspective.
