For the 4th year in a row, White Males are disadvantaged at university. Claims UCAS

Maybe people are realising that outside of certain specific industries, uni isn't the be all and end all in life?

I never went to uni, neither did my fiance, all of my closest friends did.

We each earn more than than all but 2 of those friends who went to uni.

Nah, to go Uni you actually have to sit, study, and put effort in. A lot of people also need to be pushed a bit by their parents. On both accounts men from working class backgrounds are failed, we generally prefer to go out drinking with our mates between 16-19 while chasing women, we then don't have parents who understand the importance of pushing us to study and do well in school because they themselves weren't pushed to do well in school. There's a lack of aspiration that I certainly noticed in school. None of my friends were trying to become Doctors or Accountants, our parents weren't pushing us to do coursework or revise for exams, they only really cared that you weren't "getting into trouble", not how well you were doing in exams.

With that said most of the people I know from school who would've been bright enough to go to Uni have done well without getting a degree, really though the country is missing out on a lot of intelligent people not being in the jobs they should be.

not necessarily - see earlier comment re: universities that advertise on the side of busses

I used to live near London Met University's campus in Islington(Holloway) for example - the student population was full of ethnic minorities, it is one of the worst universities in the UK and has very low entry requirements

on the other hand hardly any black people get into Cambridge - they let in a grand total of 15 black male students in 2015

I'd suspect that a lot of the white male demographic that would otherwise perhaps be accepted at say London Met or some similar no-name institution would perhaps be more likely to pick up a trade

White working class males are the least likely group to go to University, so less likely than any ethnic group and women, yet because they're white males it's assumed they have some sort of privileged, which means any sort of positive discrimination will doubly go against them.

Of course. Its all about being white and privileged. Without going down the race path, to this day its still a white mans world so many feel less need to go the uni.

Being ethic myself, our parents always told us to get an education and work hard because the world can be against you because you are not a white male.

Y'all need to read the reports and not just the OP's headlines.

White working class males are not applying to go to university. It's not the universities turning them down.

What privilege do I have, as a white male, that my non-white wife doesn't have? Because I haven't noticed any and she hasn't pointed any out. Nor has any of her family. Indeed she has a higher level of education than I do, works fewer hours, etc, etc. The difference in earning power between us is down to career choice differences.

I'm also not crying for extra help for my non-white kids because I don't feel they are discriminated against in any way (and don't feel they will be in the future). Indeed they seem to have achieved far more success, and been given more opportunities than many of their predominantly white class mates have. But I don't put that down to colour. It's simply that they are good at most things and WANT to be, and STRIVE to be, better than others in things they aren't yet best at.

Colour simply hasn't been a factor in our lives and we have been a mixed race couple since 1991.

Why are people so happy to just ignore this and say yeah? So what. It wouldn't be the same if it was girls, and it definitely wasn't because there was a massive push to help girls.

Rule #1 is life is not fair. And also Rule #2 is if you're a man nobody cares.

I don't think they're being disadvantaged though, it is just application rates

frankly some white male who trains to become a plumber, electrician, brick layer etc.. will probably end up better off than some minority from a similar background who blows a five figure sum getting a useless degree some some low rank uni

Did you get rid of the chip?

I'm guessing these type of jobs are looked down on by some non-white young people, especially if they're 2nd generation.

This is drilled into a lot of young non-white kids and education is seen as the way to 'level' the playing field. Twice as good and all that jazz.

Of course you wont. Its never talked about until someone points it out to you or someone gives a reason, Brexit reasons being one but lets not get into that. Its was pointed out last week in BBC news and Gaming Podcasts about the gaming industry dominated by white males yet there are plenty game designers from ethnic background but never seen. Not including Japan.

Even in the Netflix show The Defenders it was pointed out. Not as if its not known.

Did you get rid of the chip?

Nah, its still on my plate. I haven't eaten it yet. Its got abit cold now.

This is the usual answer given to the question... "You just can't see it because you're white". I would have thought my non-white wife would have pointed it out to me by now."

The fact a particular race or gender are predominantly in some industries doesn't mean they are being given preference. There may be other reasons for it.

Without clear evidence that the cause is related to colour then it's just guess work that the cause is, indeed, colour.

Guess work doesn't make it true.

Just because you or wife don't see it doesn't mean its guess work because my brothers wifes and my ex's pretty much see it. They are all British white.

Not surprised they aren't applying considering that white males are the enemy to all the ridiculous leftist lunatics that have taken over most universities

Such as? Also for those examples what is the evidence that the cause is due to colour?
