Pens

Sensible price pens can be had from Lamy, Cross & Faber Castell - All stocked at cult pens :)

Had a few nice pens for work but I kept losing them on the hospital wards and generally was disappointed that apart from having a nice body/case the refils were generally cheap and generic. (Non fountain pens). Now I stick to reasonably priced Japanese made gel ink pens. As for a gift I would ask what would have design he might like and whether hed want a fountain or rollerball and go from there.

Nearly most of the folk who use pens I know go for a Mont Blanc, however personally I prefer Dunhill pens. If you can get to Bicester village the Dunhill shop there does them for <£100

People are right though, ballpoints have pretty generic refills so you are paying the price for the name and quality of the body. The best ‘biro’ I own to write with is a Space pen that writes upside down, underwater and on any surface. It does so because of its special refills rather than the pen body being anything special.

lol does anyone remember the Penelli pen set? I always found that advert hilarious as a kid, it was just absurd :D

“Imagine smashing your pen through a metal can.... then writing perfectly!!! But wait! There’s more! Buy the pen and get this amazing roller ball for freeeee! But wait! There’s more! Get 50 more pens ABSOLUTELY FREEEEEE \o/“

I cant find the original in English (there is a Spanish version of it on YouTube) but this is broadly equivalent:

I do hate it when you're writing your name on the hull of a ship and your pen runs out.

I bought a rather nice Space Pen a few years ago and it was great up until when the ink ran out. Every refill I bought afterwards went blotchy very quickly.

Looking to get an uncle a nice pen for Xmas. Other than Mont Blanc and Montegrappa, what other nice pens are out there?

'Cross' for a mainstream luxury brand. Otherwise 'Mont Blanc' sits in its own tier really given pricing and range. You either spend shed loads more on something truly special and unique or a fair bit less.

However, I can recommend Gylla Wood Pens or similar for a custom hand crafted pen. They use stock refills which are brilliant and each pen is unique. Stock is not as full as usual, maybe off season for them or they have started focusing on custom builds only. They used to hold a much broader range.
