Im thinking about getting the Gigabyte GTX 1080 Windforce 8GB OC GDDR5X with my current rig below. its mostly for 1440 to 4k gaming (obviously not high).

I just want to know my PSU will power it, my cpu & mobo will take it (and not restrict or bottleneck) and it will fit in my case before ordering it.

Corsair 540 carbide
500w PSU - cant recall name or model
Gigabyte Z77-D3H motherboard
Intel 3770k OC to 4.7ghz with Noctura d15 HSF

Will my rig take this ok ?

Yup, get it done! :D My rig in my spec is not a million miles off what you have, and it absolutely loves 1440p gaming.

so can anyone confirm then ? Will this card fit in my case and mobo and will my psu power it ok ?

The 1080 don't use much power so you should be fine.

The websites says your case can take 32cm cards and this is 28 so should be fine.

3770k at 4.8ghz will be fine with a 1080 at 1440p

You do know that it isn't much of an upgrade from even a single 980ti that's in your signature and would be far slower than the 2 of them in sli?

If you wanted a propper upgrade from the 980ti you should really be looking at 1080ti.

What make and model of PSU is it??

My current system has a GTX1080FE and an IB Xeon E3 1230 V2 running off a Corsair SF450 450W PSU,so a decent 500W PSU would be fine with your setup!!

Edit!!

However,I am not sure I would upgrade from a GTX980TI to a GTX1080,unless you have games which you play that don't support SLI,and also for whatever reason do massively better on a GTX1080.

Thanks, MUCH appreciated !

I did have 2x980ti's at one point but one of them i RMA'd and after dabbling in sli i decided to take a refund instead of getting it replaced, the second 980ti I gave to my son along with a higher w PSU, (im sure there was another reason as well) for his machine due to the fact i barely used it, thing is now im getting into gaming a bit more and the 970 struggles with the vive and when i ask my son to bring his card or pc down he moans im ruining his setup !!! Soooo thats why im upgrading from a 970 myself now. Should be quite a big step up shouldnt it ?

So ive looked and my PSU is a Cooler Master Silent Pro Modular 500W '80 Plus Bronze' Power Supply

Depends on how reliable SLI is.
Yes, take Assassins Creed Origins for example, 45-50fps at 1440p on Ultra settings using one of two 980Tis, a 1080 or a 1080ti would be an improvement. Other games with SLI support then 2 980ti's could compete with a 1080ti.
I was waiting for the "2080ti" but with some additional bitcoin value a swap to 1080ti from SLI 980tis might be on the cards.
Andi.

Thanks for the explanation

that was my issue with sli - not everything supported it, was why i wasnt in a rush to get a replacement at the time !

what would it be like at mining dya think ?

Think they say you can get £50 a month from a 1080.

Not 100% sure on that though

I did a little review of my GTX1080FE on another forum with my IB Corre i7:

http://forums.hexus.net/reader-revi...dventure-gtx1080-fin-now-moar-benchmarks.html

I added power figures for each game tested - I was lucky to see 300W at the wall with a GTX1080FE at stock. Even when overclocked the power consumption was fine,so I suspect your system should be under 400W at the wall.
