The 'ship them back to their own country' mentality

A life sentence means a life sentence. The fact you struggle to understand that a life sentence doesn't mean a whole life term is the issue.
No I understand it perfectly well. Jesus, you make me out to be right thicko. Life sentences do not mean a whole life term, but the average term a lifer serves is too short imo. Not just immigrants, I'm talking everyone.

Erh...

In England and Wales, life imprisonment is a sentence which lasts until the death of the prisoner, although in most cases the prisoner will be eligible for parole (officially termed "early release") after a fixed period set by the judge. This period is known as the "minimum term" (previously known as the "tariff"). In some exceptionally grave cases, however, a judge may order that a life sentence should mean life by making a "whole life order."

You just keep mentioning immigrants, I don't understand why you keep feeling the need to make out you aren't racist, almost like you are worried you are

In practical terms a life sentence very rarely means the convicted dying in prison unless their already aged.

A life sentence is a life sentence unless the prisoner is allowed out on parole; they have to go to a judge. It doesn't work the way you think it does, the judge doesn't say "your sentence ends in 20 years", it's a minimum time.

The whole point of prison is supposed to be retribution, I think this is why you believe in the death penalty. You don't believe in that. Am I right?

No I don't believe in the death penalty, never have.

The punishment is with them for life. Just the custodial part isn't. A life sentence doesn't mean a life sentence in prison itself.

So why were you crying about us not deporting people to their death?

I was getting slightly confused about things last night.

For clarification, of course we shouldn't send people to their deaths, but each case needs to be reviewed individually. Not everyone who claims asylum would actually be in danger if returned to their own country.

I am definitely leaving this thread now. It's going nowhere. You can't convince me you're right and I wont convince you I'm right. We'll leave it at that. I have things to be getting on with.

Except you've just admitted you'd been wrong for ages and have changed your position completely. Clearly we have convinced you...
No, like everyone, I have my own beliefs and that's that. They may not be perfect, but then no ones beliefs are perfect, that's not the way the world works. Hopefully I'll see you guys on another thread about something else where we can get on rather more cordially.

Right, so you do want to deport innocent people to their death, but you're pretending you don't to save face? But then you've admitted that? Smooth.
Oh dear. Look, I dont want to send anyone to their death, we just need to make sure their asylum claims are genuine and they would definitely be in danger if returned to their own country. Honestly, thats my views.

Is it not difficult to see why many have their strong views on this when so many claim to have no ID, no papers, little knowledge of their supposed homeland, when so many seem to have become homosexual or become Christians on arrival allegedly in fear of reprisal in their claimed homeland? When so many supposed children later are found to be in their late twenties or early thirties? Basically when so many lie through their teeth looking for economic gains, rather than asylum? This why people look to the Right, in hope that blatantly specious claims by God knows go unchallenged? When all over Europe terrorist attacks are shown to be the activity of someone on a supposed "watch list", yet remain free to commit horrendously callous acts of mass murder? When NGO's act in cahoots with people smugglers to aid illegal migration on an unprecedented scale into Europe yet the powers that be are seemingly impotent due to political correctness? This where the tensions arise in normally meek and mild citizens who see the obvious, yet their cries go unheeded for years.

I think the reason a lot of people look to the right, is because they enjoy having an axe to grind, what better place to grind it - than at the supposed hoards of people coming and wrecking our countreh.

Why don't they ever grind it at other things;

such as the fact the government allowing 62% of the adult population to become overweight or obese on it's watch.

or why we saddle our students with £20k-30k of debt in order to get an education?

Why don't they ever grind it when they can't get a GP appointment for four weeks.

Where are the marches and protests and rage - when there's no police force left to deal with the criminal who stole from/assaulted you

They told us all to buy diesel cars, we did - now the air is wrecked in some places.

Those are some of the things that really matter, ie - they in some way affect almost every single person posting in this thread right now - why are we not grinding axes over some of those issues? why is it always

The inability of some to even consider that a net influx of an additional 300k people would have a negative impact on local services is astounding.

Saw this on the bbc today:

Set the guy on fire and beat him to death. The fact that police were involved was even more shocking.

The police were a lot more than just "involved". Their actions (as well as their woeful inaction) seem to have directly encouraged and enabled the perpetrators to think that they were in the right - and maybe even wouldn't be punished.
