In todays "Everything must have an all female version..."

Hmm.. Charlie's Angels with double reversal and all gay main cast would totally work - Charlie played by Jodie Foster, Wanda Sykes as Bosley while angels are Matt Boomer, Wentworth Miller and Luke Evans...

My guess would be -

All female cast of an original film = No issue.

All female cast in a remake of a hugely popular film which starred an all male cast = Issue.

That issue being "is the film solely being made 'female only' for a very specific reason needed by the storyline" or it simply to show "women can do it too"?

From my own point it's not something I'd see in the cinema but I'd rent it if the film is good, regardless of casting.

Exploiting a trivial angle to make more money is lame...

Would probably watch it if Sandra bullock wasn't in it, cant stand her. Have no issue with this at all, just the frothers whinging about.nothing. :)

are they still planning the all-female Lord of the Flies? i recall some whining and then everything went quiet.
i have nowt against a film that changes characters to female, if it would add a legitimate angle to the change, but if it's just done for sensationalism, then i'd probably avoid it just on general principles.

This is going to bomb hard, just like Ghostbusters did.

At first they'll be all "YAS, SLAY QUEEN" and then it bombs and it'll be all "UH MUH SEXISTS, MUH BIGOTS".

Hollywood is nothing but a propaganda machine, has been for quite a while but they're just not subtle about it anymore. Nothing but a nest of paedophiles and sex pests. Haven't been to the cinema in years now, starve the beast.

Never liked the original or the remake so don't think I will be watching this female cast or not.

I always wonder at the dearth of talented storytelling that 'success' appears to be rehashing an old plot line with a wimmin only cast...
Surely there's plenty of engaging tales to tell that stand on their own merit for which a more female orientated cast would shine? Rehashing old films with the latest trend in virtue signalling is how it comes over to me. There's plenty of great female leads in movies that make stuff like this so obviously what it is - a cheap attempt to make money off the latest focus-grouped social trend; lowest common denominator crap films that are entirely forgettable.

Probably won't watch this one either.

It occurred to me recently that the film industry may feel rehashes with an women leads may be more profitable due to a marginally greater number of women going to the cinema than men. But if this is the thought behind it, then I suggest it's flawed. While it's true that more women do go to the cinema I would expect more money to be spent my men overall. Men are probably likely to buy more drink and popcorn in the cinema and when a couple go to the cinema together then it's more likely the man buys the tickets.

So disenfranchising men will likely have a long term negative affect on profits as they simply won't want to go to the cinema to watch an all female lead film, whether with their mates or with their partners.

Concessions only benefit the cinema chain, not the movie studios who make the films.

Indeed. Then the cinema chains will choose which films to show based on their expected overall profit. So they will stop prioritising films that they don't sell enough concessions for.

Blue is the warmest colour (albeit without the horses/Americans etc, but it's actually a very good film too)

You're welcome.

Wife made me watch this. It's actually brilliant. Would still be good without the sex scenes. Glad they were in though!
