Supermarket Home Delivery Shopping.

ocado are great. Nice little touches like buy back of carrier bags, decent length dates and a nice receipt which separates things by their use by date (good to put up on the fridge)

This is my only criticism of Sainsbury’s. It’s all too easy to shove everything in the fridge and not check the dates. They only advise if there’s a short date within 24 hours.

Otherwise Sainsbury’s online service is excellent. It definitely saves money as I’m forced to plan meals and make fewer impulse buys.

We’re giving it a go with Sainsbury’s. It was really strange though, the delivery slot system was all over the place. One minute we could order tomorrow, the next minute it said there was nothing until next week. Fingers crossed they are coming tomorrow with a big, fat turkey.

Been doing it for 10 years, takes the pain away and saves money too as we are 20 minutes from the nearest supermarket I'd want to use.

People are using it all the time. In the time between you looking, the other slots may have been taken. Online shopping is a busy business.

We had to give up home deliveries or be vigilant on what we order because my daughter has a very serious dairy allergy.
We have found in the past that not enough attention has been paid when they've selected "alternatives".

eg: Crisps... They don't seem to realise that Whey powder coatings are Milk !

We do use Tesco & Morrisons Home Delivery when they throw vouchers at us though.

I use Sainsbury's for my weekly shop. More expensive than Tesco, but I find with Tesco they leave the bloody crate with me, and don't help me take all the stuff to my flat.

Pay for what you get I suppose.

I started using it a few months back and I'm really liking it. It's so simple and easy to just do your grocery shop online and have it all delivered to your door the next day at a time of your choosing.

Delivery charges can be as little as £1 for a late delivery the next day or anything up to £6 for a first thing in the morning delivery the next day. I usually pick noon which costs me £4. This is with Asda btw.

If anything you have picked online is out of stock, then Asda pick a similar replacement item for you. You can accept this item when the delivery arrives or reject it and get a full refund.

How many of you use this service?

We have twin toddlers and with my wife and I working, it's just easier to get a delivery from Tesco. Hate them as a company but wife thinks their delivery is the best from all she has tried. She sits the night before and orders online on her phone app.

Welcome to the 21st century op. There's about 80 years left and it's going to get only more exciting.

This is exactly the reason we use it, we don't want to fight two young kids around the supermarket or leave a single parent doing the "big" shop for a couple of hours at the weekend. We have better things to be doing in our time!

We use Ocado every week. It’s so much more convenient than going to the supermarket ourselves.

Only downside is you can’t see the products before you buy them. I once ended up with a lifetime’s supply of oregano because it was on special offer and I didn’t check the size the jars they were selling. :o

I've seen recently asda have started putting a short shelf life section on their receipts so you can see anything with 2 days or less on the life. Handy. Getting an email showing the substitutes etc around mid day for evening delivery is good too. Dunno why anyone would shop in store nowadays. Also I think people that order for their evening dinner on night of delivery are having a laugh moaning about substitutes when the system they use is pretty clearly explained on websites and half the time the deliveries are free or a pound. True first world problems. :D

I think Morrisons have been doing that since I started using them a couple of years back.
It's quite handy.

I'm not so impressed with Tesco who have repeatedly given me bread that was best before the day it was delivered (I've started checking the date as it's delivered now).

I use to work for Ocado couple months ago, and always found the delivery service to be top notch.

Its mostly robots that do the work. Like you said, little things like colour coded bags, bags buyback and recept in different categories. Use by dates too.

I only used Ocado due to the 15% off, I use asda now and find asda to be useless to be honest, but I'm not too bothered.

Ocado also do the delivery for morrisons. Will come to the same depot before onto the vans. Depot will have separate vans Ocado and morrisons. Basically Morrisons in partnership with Ocado for 25 years. Food completey separate.

Home deliveries can be safer than shopping in person, especially in Skipton:

A MAN has been arrested on suspicion of murder after a woman was fatally stabbed to death in Aldi. The suspected knifeman was tackled to the ground after stabbing the woman, with police since launching a murder probe into the horrific attack in Skipton, North Yorks, about 3.30pm this afternoon.

Having worked for the home shopping section of a supermarket, in always cautious of home shopping. I much prefer the warehouse to door style like Ocado and usually Morrison's provide as they tend to be picked by robots, or at least in some date order.

I have probably had 30 home shop deliveries from Asda / Sainsbury's / Tesco over the years and there is always something substituted for something silly or meat with 1 day of shelf life left.

I don't know how much things have changed in the 3 years since I last worked there but the way items were picked in store was poor. They would be picked early AM on the day of delivery when the latest deliveries were being put out. It sounds sensible but because of date rotation in store, the stuff closest to it's sell by date would be at the front so you would always get that.

Also the substitutions were hilarious. I've seen a towel swapped for a trowel, femfresh for creme fraiche and gallon bottles of water for AAA batteries because someone couldn't be bothered loading so much water.

I much prefer to go to Aldi, Lidl or the small Morrison's as at least I have some control over what I pick and I actually don't mind the experience 90% of the time.

do none of these places have a "no substitutions" option, so you pay less and just pick it up yourself instead of getting lumbered w/ these stupid subs?

Yup Tesco do, as I think does morrisons.

You are always (in my experience) given the option to refuse a substitution at delivery.

I use it for my weekly shop that comes at 10pm every Sunday. I use Tesco and I sign up to their delivery saver (anytime 6 months) for 7 quid a month. Means I can add another shop in anytime I want (i.e. bbq or kids birthday parties etc), averages out at about 1.50 per delivery. I still use local grocers and butchers for fresh meat and veg but for weekly essentials I couldn't do without home delivery now - the couple of hours saved per week that I would otherwise spend shopping is invaluable to me.

Very reliable and on the odd occasion where they've made a mistake they have rectified it immediately.

Yes, at the checkout stage Tesco have a check box you can uncheck sif you don't want them to make a sub. I'd rather they make a sub though - you can always refuse it at the point of delivery and get refunded if you don't think it's an appropriate sub though. We get a lot of Tesco own brand stuff, so I'm normally quite happy if they swap it for the branded equivalent as you don't get charged any extra :)
