Link - BBC to air more religious programming

First we had Brexit which is right-leaning, followed by the 2018 royal wedding announcement again right-leaning because of patriotism. Following these events, I have noticed an increase in racism as it's in my area of work - I work with interpreters and some are actually leaving the country because of the level of abuse they've been subjected to.

Now the propaganda machine is going to air more religion which I think is going to make the country even more backward. A lot of the doctrines are right-leaning, with traditional conservative values with little or no room for advancement. Women are still 2nd class in some doctrines, and when questioned, they say they are submissive because it brings them closer to God. I think that projects a bad message for gender equality. Some doctrines aren't up-to-date in some other areas too such as LGBT rights and abortion rights.

I know OcUK itself is a fairly conservative forum (with a small 'c'), but I'm still interested in your views. I'll probably agree with some and not agree with others on here, so this will be like an AIBU thread :P

Going the other way (leftism), I don't have much room for SJWs (social justice warriors) either, plus people who are offended for the sake of being offended, and anything that is overly PC. So I guess this puts me in the centre or slightly left-of-centre. So no religion, no SJWs or being terminally offended. Just some common sense :-)

yer but which religon? I think we all know where this is heading.

******* BBC I for one do not want to pay anything towards any religious programming whatsover.

scrap the license TAX now!

You've noticed an increase in racism in your area following the announcement of the Royal Wedding? Really?

Bloody hell mate, save some tinfoil for the Christmas roast, this isn't a Islamic conspiracy story. The BBC article names most major religions. They feel that they can gain some of the religious audience.
Hmm well I take that with a pinch of salt. You wait and see

Tbh religion should not be allowed on TV, too many vulnerable people that can be brain washed into religion. It should be over 18, hopefully if you wasn't exposed to it until you was an adult, most rational adults would see through it.

surely if the aim is to promote religious tolerance and equality what we should be doing is expressly not making a big deal about it. the aim is to get to a society where your choice of religion is no more controversial than your decision to like Italian food, or wear jeans instead of chinos. banging on about it like it's a big deal seems rather counterproductive.

Some religions are incompatible with this as they are more akin to an ideology.

What about making it illegal for parents to homeschool and thus brainwash their kids, LabR@t? What's your stance on that?

Were you this angry when Songs of Praise and Highway were the only things on TV on a Sunday?

Tawfik Hamid, an Islamic thinker and reformer who is the author of Inside Jihad: Understanding and Confronting Radical Islam. A one-time Islamic extremist from Egypt, he was a member of Jemaah Islamiya, a terrorist Islamic organization, with Dr. Ayman Al-Zawahiri, who later became the second in command of al-Qaeda. He is currently a senior fellow and chairman of the study of Islamic radicalism at the Potomac Institute for Policy Studies.

Hamid:
A religion becomes an ideology when the followers of this religion cannot tolerate the existence of those who have different views or beliefs, and when they understand their religious text literally and refuse to accept any way of understanding the religion other than their own way of understanding [\quote]

Heard them interview the new head of religious programs on radio 4.
I wouldn't be happy if I paid a license fee. They asked him about ramming religion down listener's throats and he shrugged it off.

One saving grace, he said he isn't a religious man atall so I suspect it will be a rather broad spread of moralistic bs, not just pandering to a Muslim crowd, which is basically all people fear.

Either way.... I hope people complain. It's a total waste of money.
