Bright | Teaser [HD] | Netflix

Swear I saw a dragon in one of the city backdrops, I mean where do those things fit in the backstory!

Me too, I watched it back a few times just to be sure and I also spotted the Centaur "cop" when Smith was questioning Jakobys loyalty at the start.

They have already commissioned a sequel, maybe they'll touch a little more on the world they live in as it felt skipped over.

Good news, I'd watch a sequel in a heartbeat because the "world" interested me so much and, with such a wide and varied amount of storylines available once you go full "sci-fi", it shouldn't be too hard to come up with a decent storyline.

Really enjoyed it. We've played a few DnD games set in the modern world and this was along those lines.
Looking forward to a sequel

I like the world they created, but the character are far too 1 dimensional and predictable.

Its watchable but the orc character needs work, he was unlikable.

Just finished watching this as nothing else on the TV, not a Xmas movie by any means but enjoyable none the less, The world this is set in has me intrigued and I hope we see more of it in the sequel. Some of the shots especially the slow mo stuff was good to take in, I wouldn't have minded seeing it in the Cinema tbh as it looks well with Dolby Vision.

Some of the plot points were cookie cutter and easy enough to work out but overall I don't see why it's got the slating it did from critics.

I really enjoyed it, and like a lot of people have said, I really hope(d) for more meat on the storyline - backgorund, history, etc. Hopefully that will come in future.

I did like the orc, but again I feel it would have been good to know his story more.

There is a lot of potential but somehow I suspect the sequel is likely just to play fast and loose with what has already been shown and throw in some generic story so its more of the same but less interesting than the first time around - hopefully I'm wrong and they develop some of the back stuff, etc.

Enjoyable, but agree its not exactly original or new. Take lethal weapon, Alien Nation, LOTR and you got this film really.

100 mill budget? and now sequel is due.......

Would be better off being a tv series but at same time don't mind a film series.

Really enjoyed it despite the typically overused Will Smith mannerisms. Look forward to more.

Found it better than I thought it was going to be after reading some of the reviews, although it was still pretty average....would have been much better as a TV series though to expand on the whole scenario. Also Will Smith doing Will Smith gets tiresome.

Saw the trailer when I went to see the latest Star Wars. Afterwards, being a gamer, I'd wanted Shadowrun the movie; ended up in a Will Smith action flick. Could've been worse. It tried to please too many audiences, and its poor writing did not really say anything meaningful about the current american society and politics. Anything above the whizz-bang quest for an artefact was tacked on, likely by committee. Shame.

As others have said it definitely echoes Alien Nation.
Liked the lore and the centor cop and dragon cameos. Oddly those reminded me a bits in the second matrix film (reloaded?) where it teases you with a fleeting glimpse of the mech robot things and leaves it there. Just something really ****ing cool.

The orcs being "gangsta" annoyed me. Just such lazy stereotyping and seemed so outdated. So basically then the orcs are black people in South Central LA. Goddit.

Did chuckle to myself in the orc/metal club scene though. So after the orc cop guy told Will Smith the music he was listening to in the car was a beautiful orcish love song made me think that what the humans were moshing to was basically Barry Manilow to the orcs. Had to be there I suppose :p

Surprised there is a sequel in the works. Would have put £100 on it being a vehicle for a new series. Use the film/pilot to set up the world and back story and reuse a load of the smaller players from the film for the series.

Hmmm I gave up on this the other night after 20 mins. From the sounds of the comments in this thread, I need to go back and give it another chance.

Just got around to watching this and I am stunned that Netflix allowed the director to take such a great concept and screw it up so badly, it has an awful script and a very incoherent plot. I also watched the "history of magic" mockumentary and that made things even worse. Orcs as a race are treated like pariahs for following the dark lord millenia ago and yet it was an Orc who became the first "Bright" and defeated him? Ehhh.

Don't get me wrong, it is watchable as I love fantasy (and this is basically Shadowrun re-imagined) but there is no excuse for poor writing and storytelling. It could have been so much more had it a good team behind it... such a wasted opportunity. :(
