Nick Clegg is being knighted in the new year for his five years as a deputy PM. Can anyone tell me exactly what he did in those five years to be worthy of a knighthood?

I don’t care who or what he campaigns for, I just don’t see how he deserves a knighthood for essentially being little more than a lapdog to David Cameron. Knighthoods are handed out way too willy nilly imo.

Did you feel Vince Cable deserved his knighthood? Ultimately they're handed out so randomly these days they're not really worth much respect anyway.

Good point I guess the New Labour people are too controversial to get one. Have to find somebody to give them to after all. And he even sold his party out to his arch enemy and nearly destroyed the party.

John Prescott too working class for them. Instead, they put him in the lords, they stick anyone in there now.

it's pretty standard for various people in politics, the civil service and the military get dished out honours when they reach a certain level/have put in a fair few years etc...

with celebs/sports people it seems to be a bit more random and with not so famous business people it is probably down to knowing someone with a connection and them then nominating you (probably carries a bit more weight if say a former government minister is on the board of your company for example)

you also get the odd random one - usually only an MBE, dished out to someone in a very ordinary job who has been super dedicated in some way - those are quite nice to see tbh... though are quite blatantly a total lottery

I don't care about this sort of thing.

The entire thing is pretty corrupt, but some deserving people are recognized as well.

I either respect you or I don't.

Plus if we let the current crop of incompetents try and reform it they are likely to make things worse.

I think It’s just been done to wind Nigel Farage up.

I would like to see people with similar sounding names to Nigel Farage getting knighted each year to continue to raise his blood pressure. Maybe find other people called Nigel Farage and make them Sirs.
