a "friend" has offered to build me a pc.

i5-7640 @4,ghz
asus h110m -atx motherboard
dvd writer
corsair 550w
SSD (250gb) and HD(1tb)
vegance 16gb ram (2x8)
2 cooling fans
gtx Geforce 1960
windows 10

he is going to be charging me 1100.
this is all the information he has givin me so far but I think its a bit espensive? but I am unsure. any advice would be great

Is the GPU a 960 or 1060? seems a little on the high side if its a 960.

I didn't think the i5-7640 was compatible with the H110m chipset either - one of those is probably wrong.

o sorry typo. yes the gpu is the 1060.

and as far as the motherboard and cpu is concerned that is all my friend has said to me. so I don't know if they fit together or not but he said he would be putting it together so?

Off the top of my head that’s about 3 to 400 too much even including build cost.

The motherboard does look compatible. Do you know if the 1060 is a 6gb one?

I believe its the 1060 4gb

and do you think its worth just saying no thanks then? as I would rather know I am getting it at a decent price rather than be scammed?

Sorry I’m having a nightmare copying the basker bbcode on the iPad.

Everything listed (as said,no case) assuming a 3gb 1060 comes to £850 odd on OCUK as raw parts.

To be fair, I did gor for cheaper models such as WD green SSD etc.

HTH

I wouldn’t say scam :-) I don’t know the parts cost, but if you are prepared to build it yourself the OCUK part picker gurus would get you something much better.

So about £900 for parts and £200 for the build?

If I were you i'd just look at pre-built systems elsewhere to get a comparison. January sales will be on soon. No disrespect to your mate here, I'd just be looking for a comparison.

just out of curiosity.
when you build a pc is it simply put everything is, start it up and install windows?
I realise things have specific places and wiring etc. but surely its pretty straight forward?
or am I just being naive here?

and would you say that these parts are better than the ones I have provided?

Hi

It is fairly simple unless when it's all together it doesn't switch on in which case fault finding can be tricky - that's really what you are paying for when someone builds it for you - but if they do that and charge you I'd expect a "warranty" of some kind. Unless your mate has made a silly mistake, the fact the motherboard and cpu are not compatible would worry me!

Those parts are much better (*except the CPU and the PSU is the same but adequate) and the platform is 2 generations younger (than h100m which is lowest spec older generation) so has more upgrade capacity as well as power out of the box.

Someone esle will be a long with a better spec than I no doubt.
