Hello,

I am considering upgrading my graphics to be able to play games at more than medium graphic settings plus be able to run the oculus VR. My Budget is around £300 but I can stretch it should it be considerably worth it.

my Current system is

  • Mobo: Gigabyte Z77X-D3H
  • CPU: Intel Core i5 3570K - 3.4Ghz
  • Graphics: AMD R9 270x - 2GBs
  • RAM: 8GBs
I have been checking and I've read there is a bottle neck between my CPU and my GPU. (apparently 16%)

I was thinking of going for:

  • GeForce GTX 1070
  • AMD RX 580
but I am just worried that one is too much and one isn't enough.

Recommended VR specs are:

Graphics Card

NVIDIA GTX 1060/AMD Radeon RX 480 or greater

Alternative Graphics Card

NVIDIA GTX 970/AMD Radeon R9 290 or greater

CPU

Intel i5-4590/AMD Ryzen 5 1500X or greater

Memory

8 GB+ RAM

What's your case ? If you've got a 5.3" panel at the front could stick in an Aorus card, has internal HDMI ports that you can plug into a VR panel at the front of the case

If not, cheapest 1070 you can find !

My case is a Cooler Master HAF 912.

I've never heard of an Aorus card / VR front panel. I'll have to do some research.

Can I ask what a good price for a 1070 is ? (1070 or 1070 Ti ? )

edit: at quick glance VR panel is £50 - and an 8GB Aorus card brings it to cost more than just a 1070.

Need a 5.3" to 3.5" convertor , price on here is steep for the Aorus which brings it to gtx 1070 Ti pricing which would give better frames in VR

My basket at Overclockers UK:

thanks very much, I'll have to consider the extra cost.

would you say the VR panel is a must ?

just depends on your set up really.
If your case is heavy , can't move it and located where it's hard to reach the back and can't leave the headset out. Then it's great .
If your have a small case on a desk with a screen and ease to plug in headset at the back or no need to pack away, then no need for it

Most users on here that have gone for Aorus and VR panel liked the idea or had need for it .
One of my friends leaves his plugged in all the time on the desk, other packs away due to kids and is located on a shelf on a desk so finds it a pain to go around the back and plug it in haha

I see, I've two cats who may chew it up so I'll look into that. Thank you very much
