Hi all, i'm torn at the moment between building a pc now of wait for a few months. I don't have a budget as such but will need everything apart from windows also haven't decided between 1440p or 4k the pc will be solely for gaming the one thing i would like is at least a 32" monitor. i realise it won't be cheap and i'm ok with that,
The main reason I may wait for a few months is what i have read with new monitors arriving 2018 and the 390 chipset possible, but i do understand there is always something around the corner.........what are your thoughts?

Hi and welcome to the forums. :)

What is your current spec? AMD's Ryzen 2 should be out around the end of February so I wouldn't be buying into AMD with a new lineup so close to launch. Intels current chipset was dead the moment it launched as there is yet another new one (Z390) coming out in the 2nd half of 2018 if I remember right. Hopefully the current cpu's will be down to their proper prices soon as supply finally catches up with demand. They are still forcing people to spend more than they need to though as the only option for motherboards is the Z370 chipset and prices of those are creeping up as well. People who buy a non-K series cpu don't need a Z series motherboard so are being forced to spend £50+ more than needed due to Intel still not releasing any of the lesser chipsets. Then there is the shocking price of memory to consider as well. This has also increased quite considerably again since the begining of December. All things considered it's not a good time to be building a new pc and I can only see prices getting worse.

Thanks, at the moment i don't have a pc as my last one died over a year ago so another few months is no biggie. as it will be a gaming rig i'm leaning towards intel/geforce
is this a good choice?

If you need a pc now then just get it. There's always something better round the corner. If you can wait, then wait.

It's the thing of , if you wait , they'll always be something better around the corner and Moore's Law is still hanging in there. If you've got the cash , you buy it now . HDR monitors would be worth the wait though .
Z390 or what ever it will be called will still be based on hex core . No need for 8 core as i7 8700k can nail Ryzen in 1080p gaming easily and hurts X chipsets .
Normally i7 K chips last a good 5 odds years or more , so if you do get coffeelake. Not really dead as it will last , z390 or z470 or z58087663 might be different LGA sockets all together or force new CPU , can't tell . Though Intel makes more money for board vendors then AMD does , trying to sell a 2nd gen board to a first gen owner will be harder then Intel's tactic of, new board regardless lol
