See there's currently £100 Cashback on the HP ML310e G8 Server which supports 32GB of RAM out of the box.

I got mine on Friday from <a competitor> for £357 before cashback giving a bargain of £257 after.

Sadly this supplier has bumped their price up by a whopping £130.

A little gotcha with these - a feature called "SmartMemory" means that you can only use HP approved RAM with these. Which as far as I can tell means only HP branded RAM (about twice as expensive as Kingston/Crucial/etc.).

Got one of these for a client recently and thought I'd save on the budget a bit by buying cheaper third-party RAM (Hypertec). Wouldn't boot.

Strange, as I'm sure we've been dropping ECC Kingston RAM in our Gen8's.

Sure you weren't just trying the wrong type of memory?

Hi,
I have an ML110 G7 with a G840 2.8 GHZ processor. From the previous threads I can't work out whether anybody has successfully added the Kingston 8GB modules with this specific processor. The intel site does suggest that this processor does support 32 GBs and speeds of 1066/1333. Also does this server tolerate memory of more than one speed. I currently have 10 GB in the server (2 X 4 GB crucial memory and the original 2 GB stick) I am planning on putting two Kingston 8gb sticks in alongside the two crucial 4 gb sticks.

Thanks

I have this exact spec machine at home running ESXi (the G840 CPU). It currently has 16GB of RAM in it, 4x4GB Kingston sticks sourced from the jungle shop (KTH-PL313E/4G) but discontinued now. If you scroll back through the thread to here you can see a screen shot of someone with 32GB running on a G7 (but using a Xeon CPU). It's worth a try in my opinion, just send the RAM back if it doesn't work...

I have three 4GB non-HP sticks in mine running fine :S

Crucial ones IIRC, cost about £25 a stick back before RAM prices hit the moon.

Hi,
Just to confirm I now have my ML110 G7 with the G840 2.8 GHZ processor running with 24gb of ram using the bios of 02/01/2012. The memory sticks are 2x KTH-PL313E/8G (8 GB sticks) and 2 x 4gb sticks (Crucial CT2KIT51272BA1339.000). You can still buy the server elsewhere (new) with the E3-1220 processor but it is well over £300 pounds.
