Hello gents,
Looking to get an ultra wide monitor and a new graphics card (sold one of my 980s a while back)

Looking at the EVGA FTW.

Question is, with an earlish ish release for nvidia rumoured, and AMDs next revision under huge pressure to actually perform, do I wait?

I'm not against buying second hand, and I'm in no huge rush, but I'm of the mindset that "there's always something better coming" so I don't mind splashing the spondoolies.

So, opinions? Wait or 1440p awesomeness now?

Aye that's what I thought, thanks man.

I also noticed a similiar thread after I posted this one, so I'll continue to peruse that.

Note that there's a press conference in 5 days time, on the 7th. There's a countdown timer on the NV website. Wouldn't be surprised if........
Noticed also under driver download there's a "Titan" series now too, so the Titan V appears under that, not under 10 series.
11 series incoming :P

I have the worst timing when it comes to buying Gpu's, so it mustn't be long for the next nvidia card as I've only fairly recently purchased a 1080Ti.
Literally the next day the TitanV was launched

I would hold off at least until the process conference is done.

The release of new cards at the very least will see a price drop.

If Nvidia don't release a new line of cards this year, Ill be shocked as they'd be missing out on so many people on the 10 series who will probably upgrade.

I wouldn't be that surprised. They have no competition. Navi isn't launching until Q4'18 or Q1'19. Even then they might not be able to offer 1080ti performance for anything less than 1 billion dollars. nV could just drop the price of their current lineup to compete.

JSH when last asked stated that "Pascal is where it's at, bitches." Then they released a new Pascal card (1070ti), now a new 1060 (5GB), and a Titan card for close to 3 grand. nV aren't in any rush to replace the 10 series. Heck, they're still expanding the 10 series. When have they ever done that only to release a new line-up a few months later?

Maybe 12 months from now they'll think about it, after AMD has mis-handled the Navi (paper) launch and *****d off gamers everywhere, again. Leaving people to throw their hands in the air, shout "**** it", and buy another nV over-priced card.

I hate both teams. They both suck.

No one with a Pascal card should have had any serious buyers remorse as a result of the Titan V being released..

Even those that had just dropped well over a £1,000 for a Titan xp.. (other than maybe being annoyed that they no longer have the absolute fastest Nvidia card for gaming on)

Titan V is in a whole other price bracket for rather slim gains in gaming (what with it really being a compute orientated card and all)

Not the same story if Nvidia drop a '1170 \ 1180` with similar or better performance than a 1080ti but for less money.......

Oh, no buyer's remorse. Just half expecting something new to arrive shortly after my purchase.
Purchased the 1080ti as a stop gap and for vr. Previous card was a 980 and it wasn't cutting it for normal gaming nevermind vr

Honestly, the only people who should have buyers remorse are those that dropped the cash on a Titan V. As far as being an enthusiast/gamer is concerned, at the very least.

I went from a Gigabyte 980Ti G1 Gaming to EVGA 1080Ti FTW3 back in June/July. Very happy with my purchase for both 1440p and VR.

Get it now and enjoy. If price is a concern, buy a console.

Glad to hear you're chuffed with the upgrade, out of interest what resolution are you running?

I'll be coming from 1200p 60hz to 1440p gsync, I may wait for a VA monitor that does iver 100hz, but that's a different thread.

Unsure what I said that gave you the impression I was worried about the expense though, it's a £700+ card!! Anyone dropping that cash should at least consider their options, especially when you're chucking a grands worth of monitor into the mix.

Surprised I got any replies what with the other thread, thanks gents. Interested to see what the announcement is, as it happens I don't believe you'll see NV sit on their laurels.

Damn, I am the guy in the other thread pondering whether to switch from 980ti to 1080ti... never knew there was a press conference... need to now evaluate if now is the best time to buy one

I do not no why I buy new graphic cards I never seem to have the time to make the most of them before something new comes along with that in mind I do not think there is a good or bad time to buy.

I share your pain, I was perusing the EVGA and Strix 1080ti with glee, and the urge to click buy with an Omen X35 or similar was very hard to resist.

I have no problem with price drops a few months down the line, or new card releases, it just means good second hand prices for SLI rather than a new gen. But when you can buy the same card 6 weeks later for almost half the price, it gets me right in the feels.

Keep me posted as to what you do mate, I can't see NV not releasing a least a top end card in 1H, so I'm watching carefully!

But its not a competition to "who has the best graphics card".

Its who can make the most money. Nvidia if they don't release more cards will have people sitting on their 1080tis, 1080s, 1070s and 1060s for way longer than they want them to.

For example, someone who bought a launch 1080 probably hasn't upgraded since its release. Nvidia will want THEIR money.

I think the next batch of cards might not push performance as far as it would have if AMD has stepped up, but not release a new series of cards to make 10 series users upgrade is borderline silly from Nvidia.

I see the 1070ti as just trying to squeeze what little amount of users left into the 10 series before they move on.

I hope I'm not wrong as I'm kind of holding out for the 11 series tbh. I think they'll be in a tough position of having
1. a population who are content with what they have (10 series card), with the only alternative to buy a 1080ti for £750+
2. a population who didn't want to invest in 10 series, have resisted 1070ti and now are playing the waiting game for 11 series.

I can't think of a way Nvidia will get money from those people which is ultimately what they want. Having the best graphics card is great but I'm sure they're more concerned with sucking money from us.

They could be absolutely arses and release an 11 series which is over priced and in scale with the 1080ti's price line.. i.e. their 1170 is near 1080ti prices and equivalent performance. If they do that.. then we know we're doomed.
