I know someone who was supposed to be a second hand car dealer (on paper) despite not selling any cars... HMRC and the UK courts didn't find it very plausible

Oh I can assure you I received no "financial or other advantage" in receipt of the gifts, I am married after all, it was simply a goodwill gesture between two cohabiting supply chain partners. If my wife's reading this please don't divorce me.
