NO GLASS!

Really not a fan of the glass, as it always arrives chipped or is poor quality.

Just a plain black one will do, for £30. Ideally from Amazon as I received a gift card from there.

Can't seem to find one...

How about this? It has VESA 200x200 up to VESA 400x400 covered, so that should do loads of flat screen LED TVs. £30 from the rain forest store and it has a swivel plus it's eligable for Prime.

Search for: "1home TV Stand Table Pedestal Bracket LCD/LED TV 26 -50 Inch Swivel Height Adjustable"

I've seen that one, but it's glass :/

With a budget of £30 I don't know if you're going to have much of a choice.

My guess is that folk buying these fall in to one of two camps. There'll be the upgraders looking for features or aesthetics. Then there'll be the "Oh crap, I threw away the table top sand when I wall-mounted the telly; now I need it again"-brigade. So in either case maybe the £30 stands are built down to a price for those who begrudge paying for something as a replacement for what came free in the box?

I'm pretty sure I saw similar to these designs in John Lewis. Perhaps other retailers have them too. Maybe it's time to go have a look first hand?

I just thought metal would be cheaper than tempered safety glass like many of these £30 stands have

Glass can be as strong and gives a higher perceived-value appearance. It's also possibly a more durable finish than a paint treatment.

I suspect too that the skills and technology have developed in the supply chain to make glass the more economical choice by virtue of volume. Certainly looking at all the glass shelving there seems to be no shortage of variety in tempered glass solutions.

True - either way it's a pain :p
