Buy now or wait for Christmas/New year's deals?

Hi all,

Just a bit of an update. I had a chat with their sales team, and what started as a Kin'Yobi VR Gaming PC 1800x - has ended up as this:

Kin'Yobi VR Gaming PC

  • Phanteks Enthoo Pro M Glass RGB Special Edition - Black/White
  • Phanteks RGB LED Strip Starter Kit (PH-LEDKT_CMBO)
  • AMD Ryzen 5 Six Core 1600X 4.00GHz (Socket AM4) Processor
  • MSI GeForce GTX 1070 Ti Gaming 8192MB GDDR5 PCI-Express Graphics Card
  • Samsung 960 EVO Polaris 500GB M.2 2280 PCI-e 3.0 x4 NVMe Solid State Drive
  • Seagate BarraCuda 2TB 7200 RPM SATA 6Gb/s 64MB Cache HDD - OEM
  • Alpenfohn Ben Nevis Advanced Black RGB CPU Cooler - 130mm
  • Asus ROG Strix B350-F AMD B350 (Socket AM4) DDR4 ATX Motherboard
  • Team Group Dark Pro 16GB (2x8GB) DDR4 PC4-25600C16 3200MHz Dual Channel Kit - Black/Grey
  • Asus PCE-N15 300Mbps 802.11B/G/N Wireless PCI-E Network Adapter
  • Microsoft Windows 10 64-Bit DVD - OEM (MS-KW9-00139)
  • Kolink KL-600 600W '80 Plus Bronze' Power Supply
So far, the total is £1,545.90 (just over my £1,500) budget. I am pretty happy with this set up, but I would like to get a better PSU. Does anyone have any recommendations? Any other comments on the spec?. I plan to buy it in between Christmas and New Year.

Cheers all!

The PM961 is an OEM version of the 960 EVO according to the review below, so yes it is much better value at the minute as it is only £8 more than the 850 EVO.

My basket at Overclockers UK:
Total: £377.68 (includes shipping: £8.70)

Interesting as its £50 cheaper than the 960 EVO so would save me a chunk on the current build I am looking at. Thanks.

Used those in client builds , both SM and PM. Again you'll be hard pushed to tell the difference between them and evo, if you know your away around and you can flash SM with EVO firmware but requires both drives etc etc .
Will always push for the bigger SSD, for a few more quid the. Yeah NVMe drive that had the 12GB extra which is lot when drive is formatted haha. Think the 850 evo drops to 480GB after format :)

Wow, so £1500 is now the going rate for a mid range PC.

It would have cost less than £1K a few years ago for the same (relative) spec.

Hi all,

Just A quick message to say thank you to all of you for your help. I ordered the computer in between Christmas and New Year. Fingers crossed, it will be delivered tomorrow. (Its with DPD and I had a bad experience with them with a Christmas present. Hopefully it will be alright :D) I will post pictures once I have figured out how to post them... Now to go hunting for a monitor. Its a bit of a mine field, the more I research and look, the more confused I get!!

Here´s the final spec... cant wait :)

Kev1 - The reason I have not added any photos is because I have been having problems with the system. Its starts up fine with the fan/lights all working, but I am not getting any signal from my old monitor (connected to the GPU via a HDMI - DVI-D cable). I have tried to connecting it with my TV via a standard HDMI cable as well, which also didn't work. The other thing I noticed was that I get no response/light working from the keyboard.

I have checked and reset (took out and replaced) the ram. I tried to do the same with the GPU, but I am a newbie with computer parts. I took off some screws, but I think there might be a latch somewhere stopping me from removing the GPU from the board. (I didn't want to force it). I just made sure it was connected and secure.

I have been speaking to the support team and it could be the GPU/processor that may have been 'jolted' during transport. They have sent me the return address labels to send it back to them to have a look. I just don't have the knowledge or confidence to do it myself. I also don't know anyone local to help without having to pay for someone to do it (I def. won't be doing that). Unless I can find someone local (Stevenage, Hertfordshire) I will have to post it back to them to have a look.

The support team have been helpful but it is a bit frustrating when you spend lots of money on a pre-built system that doesn't work. I know it might not necessarily be there fault, but it’s still upsetting.

Any ideas anyone?
