Red Hot Sunglasses

I bought my RB2132's from Red Hot, certainly don't seem fake and all the reviews seemed to indicate the same.

Well they arrived and I'm not convinced. I have two pairs of Ray-Ban Erika RB4171 polarised (for the gf) sat side-by-side here. One from RHS and one from Sunglasses hut. £79 vs £135 (£118 with 15% student discount) and there are definite differences. The stud on the case has a different font 'R' on the logo. The frames are a little more bent and flexible on the RHS pair. The RB etching on the lens is only visible from one side of the lens on the RHS pair and they generally don't fit her head as well as the Sunglasses Hut ones do. Lastly the screws on the RHS pair definitely have different screws on the hinge. The screw head is the same but the bottom has a different thread.

I've showed her this thread and RHS have tried to convince me they are genuine (of course they would) but she's returned them and kept the more expensive pair, for peace of mind.

I'm not an expert and I'm sure RHS wouldn't knowingly sell non-genuine stuff but could fakes creep in to supplier warehouses potentially?

how did you find this thread?

is it common practice now for companies to search google for threads on random sites about themselves?

Why wouldn't it be?

When you search for 'Red Hot sunglasses fake' this is the third result :p, 4th if you just search for the company name.

Not just for that search, but a few others and only in recent days, which is where I noticed it and thought it polite to reply

^ This, any company worth their salt will see any website traffic coming from other sources and will check it out. They will have seen a spike in people visiting from overclockers.

If in doubt, you can email Ray-Ban UK and they will confirm if said site are an official reseller or not.
Now agreed, all that will tell you is if they are an official reseller, those getting grey market items are probably not going to be classed as an official reseller.
Somebody posted a link somewhere or other last summer, prices were at that "cheaper than I'd seen them, but not so cheap you had to assume scam" level, Ray-Ban UK said they were not authorised resellers so I decided not to.

Sunglasses Hut are owned by Luxottica (who basically license nearly every brand of eye wear you can think of) so you know they'll be genuine from there.

Absolutely, I had one company about 3 years ago asking me nicely to remove my posts from a forum because they had resolved all my issues which I was willing to do but the Admin wouldn't do it.
When people search for that product my thread is high up on Google apparently.
