Hi all,

Looking to replace a HSF on a machine in my lab.

Back in the `day I would insta-buy some artic 5. What do people recommend these days?

Cheers,

Kryonaut is probably the best, but it is less then 2c better then about 30 other TIM's out there .. and 2c worth worrying about. If you worry about CPU temp, montior the airflow temp into cooler and tune case airflow so the air going into cooler is only 2-3c warmer than room instead of the 10-25c warmer commonly found when system is working hard .. like when gaming. Here is a link to how to optimize case airflow.

I have not used Kryonaut, but have heard it is not easily applied .. and ease of application determines ease of good TIM print equal best cooling. A good TIM print of mediocre TIM will give better cooling then a mediocre TiM print of better TIM. ;)

Trick I learn many years ago is to put TIM in a zip-lok bag and put it in hot water to warm it up before using. Warmth makes is softer so it flows out of tube easier and spreads easier when cooler is set down onto CPU. ;)

I'm using Kyronaut wasn't sure if i was meant to spread it or go with my usual grain of rice in the middle of the cpu? Was a real pig to spread and is probably why i have uneven temps across all the cores on my 1700x so will clean and re apply the next time i drain my loop and go with my usual grain of rice in the middle technique. I've previously used the EK stuff that came with my water blocks without any issues.

Pea method works fine on the 1700.

I wonder if there was something wrong with mine then because mine was like window putty, and just kept rolling when I tried to spread it
Exactly the same here, real pig to spread, going to have to reapply after trying the heating method mentioned above, hopefully that'll work?
