Oh without a doubt the sequels tainted the first. The first was fantastic though.
I've still not watched the last one :O

Will your parents let you?
If they're good parents they won't.

Parents always know best and never react poorly, right?

Oh my god. You're right! Wanting to screen films for his seven year old is just the beginning! We must remove all children into the care of the state!
Step away from the keyboard, you're embarrassing yourself.
Cool. Might give it a go on the understanding that there is no plot just cool computer ninja stuffs then.
It's Harry potter. Its a film starring kids. For kids. Based on books written for kids. I'm not the one who's an embarrassment.
It's his child, he's got every right to make the decision. He knows her better than you, I or any other random guy on the internet. I wouldn't have an issue myself but again, not my kid.
You've taken the context of a guy not Wanting his kid to watch harry potter yet, and somehow linked it to some mental parents imprisoning and torturing their children. It's the most desperate example of mental gymnastics I've seen on here for a while and that's saying something.
People make stupid and mental comparisons sometimes as well. The parents in question, when arrested, didn't believe they had done anything wrong. By their definition they seem to think they know best about their kids too.
They don't. Parents do stupid things and make mental decisions. Questioning whether Harry potter is suitable is one such example.

Starring children
For children
Children's books
Biggest selling series of children's books ever.
Nope, definitely not suitable for children.
I'm not going to get drawn into a debate with you. Children mature at different rates and react to things in different ways. In my view I would let a child of seven watch Harry Potter, but I don't know his kid and at the end of the day he get to make the choice. The suggestion further up to watch it with his kid first is a good way forward, as is discussing it with the school.
To take the stance that because you don't agree with his decision that it must be a mental decision, And to then compare the situation to a couple who tortured their kids is a straw man of the most absurd degree and you must realise that.
You're entitled to your stance, ridiculous as it may be. I won't debate it further as it doesn't benefit the thread.
You're operating on the fallacy that he knows best. That's my entire point.
I agree with this, though not for the reasons stated. I’d always be curious as to why it was worth taking up time watching films when you could be doing something more educational. At least you know what Harry Potter is. What you should be worried about is any lies or propaganda being fed to your children. Your concern shouldn't be the rating of the movie, the concern should be 'how will this movie be used'.
Well at the moment the two options are:
A) the parent know best.
B) some random guys on the internet know best.
The teachers have likely made a decision based on the class as a whole, not his individual child.
I'm going to say that the decision around when a child should be able to view certain films should fall to the parent, not the consensus of an internet forum, or the school.
If we're acting on the assumption that the decisions of parents aren't objective and therefore parents shouldn't make choices like this then god help us.
No harm will come to the child from her parents being a bit cautious, I went to school with kids who were slightly more sheltered than others and they turned out fine. It's hardly that big a deal.
Now if it turns out that he subsequently drags his kid out of school and locks her in the house to avoid her corruption at the hands of nefarious child wizards then I'll be straight over to your side, but I don't think that's going to happen.
No one is objective because no one is a robot. Everyone is clouded by emotions and hormonal reactions. The decisions of parents aren't objective. They're clouded by emotions.
These emotions are brought about by hormonal reactions. That's fact.
I'm going to say that the decision around when a child should be able to view certain films should fall to the parent,
