Afternoon all,

I changed my job now and my 500 mile a week commute has turned into a 90 mile a week so the other half is going to start driving the Scirocco as she's moving jobs and no longer gets a company car. Now I've been looking at spending about £4k on something but I haven't seen anything take my eye. I had a Octavia VRS diesel before and remember that being fun to drive until it started to break all the time. With the low weekly mileage I can actually start looking at petrols again.

Thoughts?

Going to totally depend on what you actually want from it.

less than £4k will buy you a turbo'd mx-5 or 2zz MR2 if you wanted a nippy, well handling convertible or probably just about be able to get into an FN2 (maybe need a touch more) if you still want to have relative practicality.

I'm not fussed with convertibles to be fair. I'm open to a larger car. I've also been round here long enough to know that Mondeo's are usually mentioned A LOT so I've been looking at ST's but worried that they might have a few too many miles for my price range.

EP3 CTR? Mine is on 84k with no issues. My brother owns my old one and that's on 140k with no issues. Depends if you comfort or a very capable B-road car?

I know someone who might be selling a low ish mileage Mondeo ST220 soon cough cough :p
4K won’t get you a Focus ST225

3.5k for a 53 plate 100k mileage Type R  they are having a laugh with that. You can get the newer shape on a 2007 for 4K now

There's a good reason why the EP3's are expensive, they're more fun than the spaceship. Last civic with that Civic heritage, the 8th gen feels different...

This one is lovely - https://www.autotrader.co.uk/classified/advert/201801032429520
I’m not sure which shape is worse the Ep3 that looks like a Honda Jazz or the other which looks like a bloated spaceship :D Never been a fan of Type R’s even though I love normally aspirated engines I just hate the look of them and the fact the gear stick is where it normally is in a transit van

Couldn't agree more. I own a Evo 8 and I've just swapped out a MR2 mk3 for an EP3 CTR. I regretted selling my old one so had to have another.

With Civic's, you either like them or hate them. There isn't a 3rd option, have you driven an EP3 on a back road? With good coilovers and sticky rubber it sticks. Don't forget about the... VTEEEC kicked in yooo

EP3 will only go up in price, people keep crashing them and its already pretty tricky to find a nice example.

I wouldn't mind an EK9, I prefer white tho... But, I would happily take this. :D

My Evo is going up in price because it's almost standard (only has an induction kit and a map) and is only on 48k after 15 years. My EP3 is a Premier too so should hold it's value fairly well.

EP3 CTR are a lot of fun on B-road.

I’ve never taken one on a proper spirited drive so maybe I would change my mind if I did. Sad thing is most Ep3’s by now have nearly all had owners like this tool who used to post random videos of himself on YouTube thrashing his Type R while slating other cars lol.

Take one out, if you can ;) Yeah... tools like that give the normal owners a bad name. :(

Hold on to that EVO. lol I'm scared to think what the prices will be like in the next 5 years...

Hope so! Needs a few bits tidying up but nothing urgent.

I'm afraid I have no suggestions but that BMW does looks good and it's going for a decent price.

Yea, that is the problem with the Type-R. That guy is the stereotype :p

The EP3 was the best one though, it's successor was rubbish by comparison.
