So, this popped up as a story on my Google Now:

Click for madness

Mental Parent said:
A horrified shopper has accused Sainsbury’s of "sexualising children" after spotting a sports bra aimed at young girls in a Plymouth store.

22 years old, and they think an article of clothing like this is sexualising children - bit old for Generation Snow flake aren't they? Goodness knows what they think of children's bathing suits for the beach - maybe they just walk around with their eyes closed shouting "won't somebody think of the children!!!!".

Nutter imo.

Have a sample of enough people and there is always mad one. With all the outcrys of 'what is the world coming to?', the most sensitive generation seems to be the ones complaining about these nutters.

Take GD for example. How many threads are there for overly PC stuff, taking offense and such? Now how many of them are literately 'what is the world coming to?' threads like these. Yup, all of them.

What is the world coming to when we have to have a new thread every time some nut case gets offended? Surely a single 'I'm offended by xxx' thread will do the trick for all this stuff

I'm more shocked by the number of people worrying about "what the world is coming to" than any of the thread content. Sounds like their lives are constantly in the balance.

There's two such threads on the first page of GD right now.

It's a top, not a bra !

PS, I just found this on Twitter, why is it even a story ? It's one comment with no retweets or likes and the only reply is from Sainsburys

It's a sports bra/sports top. If worn as a bra then the guy has issues because he thinks underwear is all about sex. If it's worn as a sports top then it's up to the kids parents if they can wear it. It's no different from what you could call "revealing" gym kit designed for actually, you know, wearing at the gym.

I wouldn't allow my daughters to wear it.

But I would just not buy it rather than run to the papers.

Why wouldn't you? Sports bras are essential for some girls otherwise they can find themselves in a lot of pain and with permanent damage.

Because people love a good outrage story, and people love being outraged about outrage.

Exactly.

I mean OP location is wiltshire, either he was looking to get offended or just happens to read a local paper for a place 150 miles away :p

No idea why my Google Now showed it tbh - it keeps showing me links to Brum and Essex too. Either my Google account is hacked, or it's very slowly learning following an Oreo reload.

Ok, fair cop - the title is far too dramatic, as I really don't think "what's the world coming too", but there seems to be an ever growing lean towards outrage over nonsense like this. And though I am probably contradicting myself, as I'm [not exactly 'outraged'] similarly having a moan about it.

It was only a passing observation of my GN feed and I thought, I'll post it on GD as I'm between jobs right now - in retrospect, I shouldn't have been so Daily Fail over it.

This. Clearly the idiot doesn't realise that the primary purpose of a bra* is for support, not for sexualisation

* yes I realise that these days we have sexy lingerie etc, but the bra was originally created to stop breasts from flapping about all over the place, stretching/sagging (just watch a documentary about jungle tribes where the women don't wear them) and generally causing discomfort to the owner

I think Connor needs to have a good think about why he's projecting his sexual thoughts on to that mannequin.

(See how easy it is for this to backfire on him :p )

My daughter (9) has a couple of these. She calls them "belly tops". It's sports wear.

If you're worried about kids being sexualised then stop them from watching Disney channel

It's a non story really, a random person complaining about a very inconsequentially little thing, a few years ago this wouldn't have been a news article. However since the 'what is this world coming too' folk have started sharing and then complaining/commenting about these sort of things. Sites have been throwing these appalling attempts at journalism out and raking in all the hits and views. They know it's utter crap but when people drink it in I can see why they do it.

It's about power. By complaining about perceived slights these people can exercise power over others. Whether that be forcing someone off a social media network or getting a company to back track and issue an apology.

At it's worst it can lead people to lose their jobs. It's cynicism at it's worst.

Thought it was mob rule...

This is what I was going to point out. And I bet the person on the receiving end of his Twitter rant wanted to say so too...

I've always wondered, are the people like the guy in the OP repressing their paedophilic urges.
"sexualising children"
that is the last thing I think when I see something like that. I might think, that's a but ****** daft looking, or doesn't really suit a child. I don't automatically think - damn that's trying to turn them into sex objects. I find these kind of people genuinely a bit disturbing.

there's a link to another story in the op about a pair of 'hot pants' for babies with the same kind of drivel being spouted. my wife bought our daughter a pair of these type of thing shorts when she was very young and the first thing I thought was 'crap, she'll need leggings to keep her warm, that's gonna be a whole handling when changing her nappy' - not the whole '"sexualising children" BS.

there's something seriously wrong with 22 year old Conor if he's looking at a mannequin with a sports bra on it and seeing 'sexualising'

I wouldn't allow my daughters to wear it.
why, out of curiosity? (genuine curiosity btw - nothing more, I'm not remotely comparing you to the nutjob in the OP)
