Listening to LBC this morning, it described the divide between the young and the old quite well, many of the older generation appear to believe the younger generation are stupid. Many of the younger generation think the older generation are stupid.

What is your experience?

Idiocy is irrelevant of age, and probably not the best way to describe it.

The young tends towards naivety and idealism.

The old tend towards obstinance and jaded beliefs.

To both groups, the other positions can seem stupid.

The counter to both is to stick to facts and clearly state assumptions in any discussion.

In the "average" case I think the young will be always smarter as they can build on the knowledge of what went before ... pretty much the reason we aren't all still covered in woad throwing poo at each other (GD discussions notwithstanding of course).

I've noticed the younger generation's obsession with the gym, it's an utter addiction and they are oblivious to the negative health implications they're going to experience in later life. All those chemical laden supplements too, they guzzle that crap and fart like troopers. Caffeine overload.

Negative health implications from exercising?...

There are negative health implications from exercising for some, ask plenty of runners when they have shot knees by their mid 50's. Not that crazy a statement, still better than doing no exercise though

There was probably always a level of this in society as we have a tendency the believe that we all know best. However, the decline in respect for ones elders that has occurred over time has probably removed the buffer that stoppped that difference in opinion being voiced.

I think a large number of both camps are far too opinionated on stuff they’ve barely scratched the surface on, being older doesn’t necessarily mean you’re wiser in every area you have an opinion on either.

Being an older (50 in July) there's a lot of ignorance in both camps, however.....

The younger generation (In very general terms) seems very self obsessed, need instant gratification and spend an inordinate amount of time communicating 24/7 via digital friends but seem to have lost the art of conversation face to face
