Nvidia Instructs Retailers To Stop Selling To Miners & Sell To Gamers Instead

Yes, unfortunately some retailers are actually miners as well.

This mining craze is a disaster. Instead of trying to minimise our power consumption as much as possible because of the severe threat of the global warming, we instead add very severe load of total power consumption of a medium-sized country to the power grid.

By medium size country you mean extremely small country called Ireland with 4.7 million people or 0.06% of the world population? :)
And that's before you check the sites that make that claim and work out the figures are also inflated by a factor of 3-6 times. :D

You are reading too much clickbait news. Another site analysed those figures and worked it out as adding a fraction of 1% of the global power demand. That's if those figures are even accurate.

The power consumption isn't regularly distributed among all the counties in the world.
African countries have negligible load on the power grid, while Japan, China, Western Europe and the USA are the worst.

Whilst I'm sure they're happy to shift stock for any reason, they won't be naive to the fact that selling hardware to miners rather than end-users will be causing rifts in the industry at various levels. It'll affect relationships with board manufacturers, retailers/suppliers and other partners in the industry. You can't just simplify it as "a sale is a sale".

The board manufacturers are selling them directly by the pallet load, so they're already in on it!

The only problem for retailers would be if the high GPU and also RAM prices start impacting sales of the other components you would buy when upgrading or building a PC and it causes a slowdown in the whole market that is not offset by money coming in from GPUs.

I run an i5 4670K, 8gb DDR3, Sata 3 256 Gb SSD. Its getting to the time where I'd be thinking of upgrading but at these prices? No chance.

the thing is retailers will be rubbing their hands can charge what they want and they know they will sell regardless.

Absolutely. I have set back all upgrades to my household PC's until this BS and DDR memory prices come back to something resembling sanity. AMD loses a CPU sale, No mobo, no PSU, no case, mouse, keyboard, monitor etc.

Did those mining specific headless GPU's ever come out? I'm sure i remember seeing a photo of an AMD version. Basically had not outputs and supposedly optimised for mining.

There was a few, They were here at OCUK under the 470 naming while the current regular cards were the 500 series. I just had a peek and they're all gone now.

It's purely fan service, Nvidia have no way of enforcing this even if they limited sellers to 1 per customer.

good, i hope all world governments ban cryptocurrency and it crashes and dies

If You are so smart then qoestion is. How d You ban something that is Virtual and You cant realy track it ?? Its like they are banning Torrent sites.. Well so far its just adding extra cost to worthless fight. They ban few sites 15 comes in their place. They ban those next ones show up.

We got TOR Proxies and stuff. Only someone with NO CLUE how it all works could come up with BAN idea as its well impossible. They can ban Mining as tracibng power draw should not be hard. But not Crypto itself.
