7k car advice

Has the 1.0 eco boost got any oomph? Wouldn’t it be better in a fiesta being smaller?

I've got the 123bhp version in a Focus - feels quicker than the figures suggest, certainly doesn't feel much slower in the real world even coming from a 197bhp Audi A3.

that's what my brother says about his girlfriends Focus, and he drives a Noble!!
my sister drives a Fiesta Eco-Boost, and my dad says the same when he drives that

im considering getting one for my next car, if its any better than my 1.8 Focus

I got a 105bhp Seat Ibiza 1.2 TSi FR 2014 for £7000 @ 25k miles, best purchase I made. It's such a comfortable car to drive and it's got a decent amount of room and punchy when you want it to be.

40mpg driving decently carefully through the towns to work and I hit between 55-60 mpg on the motorway if I bother to try. Only £30 tax too so not going to break the bank.

I really like my 1.6 ecoboost 182 focus. Decent turn of speed when required but managed to get 46MPG on the way to Silverstone last year. Not sure you'd get one for £7k though.

The mk3 Focus would be a good upgrade to your current mk2.5 1.8 the interior and ride quality is a lot better. The Zetec S model with the 1.6T 182 is a cracking looking motor and would feel like a rocket compared to your 125bhp 1.8. Take it your still looking for a new car seem to remember your thread a while back when you were thinking of getting something more powerful?

They can be had now for just under 7k on a 2012 with lowish mileage. Just a pain trying to find the 1.6T they are nearly all 1.0

Decided that my Focus is so reliable, that im putting money aside for a house deposit now instead, i also dont have that much for another car just yet, so maybe in a few years i will :)

The focus does seem nice, fiesta and ibiza have both been on my list too. See a lot more of the 1.25 fiestas about though.

I can’t seem to find an FR Ibiza under £7000 with that kind of mileage around here.

Food for thought though and thanks for all the input folks. The main issue was 7k can buy you a lot of car and it widens the search so much. Real owners advice on cars is always good.

Where abouts are you? I'm in Durham and my car was in North Wales which SEAT trailered it up to Leeds for me so it was a bit closer, maybe they would do the same?

Have you ruled out electric? Much cheaper than petrol, faster than you'd expect and perfect for 35 miles a day.
I have yes. Can only assume charging it will involve running a cable from house to car which due to it being street parking outside can either be right outside or 20 cars up the road. If I have misconceptions regarding the charging method though let me know.

and here in lies the problem for the huge number of home owners in the country without the luxury of off street parking, I've seen people with cables run over the pavement to cars round here and my immediate thought was there is a lawsuit waiting to happen!

No, I agree. If you don't have a drive to charge it on - I wouldn't bother.

Exactly my thought. Electric cars, while great aren’t really suitable for a country where space is a premium and houses get built on postage stamps.

And if everyone has one the power grid will collapse! We are struggling to. Hold enough power stations to meet current demand let alone the requirements of a nation of electric car drivers. Slightly off topic though!

OP get a focus or something or similar or if you really want to minimise your losses spend 2k on the best old mondeo you can find and bank your 5k

In Amsterdam city centre there are electric charging points at both end of a street, both sides of the road. 4 each side so 8 on each end of the street.

I’m sure we can do it, if we want to. If the Dutch can do it in a city full of canals.
