sorry to hear that, seems unlikely there is a connection though if that is what is worrying you

as others have said it looks like bay leaves

might be useful if you get a close up photo of one of the leaves and perhaps something like a ruler to give a sense of scale

Nah, some herbs or spices or whatever in the freezer won't have fractured her spine!

When I next pop over there, I'll take some more pictures.
 
Stalks look too woody for basil, so I'm thinking sage as well

Edit: changed my mind, a quick google of "woody herb" and the leaves look exactly like oregano.

That's of course assuming it is actually a culinary herb, I'm sure there are countless other plants it could be otherwise!
