320D M sport goes back to the lease company...

Everything is relative.
In the Porsche future thread the discussion is around spending £2k per month to drive around in a borrowed Porsche of your choice.

I'm not sure what the 3 series current offer is but best deal I found on the 335d x drive M Sport (no options) via carwow was £399pm Inc vat and no deposit at 1.9%apr in December.

The 335d seemed to be cheaper than the 330d at the time. With deposit, you would get that close to £300pm. This was a BMW in stock unregistered car.

Think the car was c£32k due to BMW finance and dealer contributions giving an effective 28% discount.

What's an acceptable amount of cash to burn each year then?

I would say for the average person based on average percentages of essential household spend Inc rent/mortgage statistics then 4-8% of gross income on a car is a very comfortable threshold. 10-20% if you can push it and have low outgoings generally.

You’re losing a similar amount in depreciation every year if you buy a new car at this price point.
Which is just as frightening the world of expensive new cars is clearly a rich man's game it staggers me the number of middle earners (not referring to op have no idea what you earn) willing no to burn the cost of a decent family holiday every year just to drive a brand new nothing particularly special car.

i used to commute in an old car 120 miles a day believe me as nice car is worth the money! i've been taxed nearly £300 a month due to a company car for the last 3 years at least i can actually purchase my next car lol and that is in my 4 - 8% of income

It is perfectly possible to have a nice car without having a brand new one I wouldn't dream of doing 120 miles every day in a 10 year old micra but a two year old beemer is very much like a brand new one only 10k cheaper!

How long does your commute take you?

However if everyone took that attitude, where would the supply of like new 2 year old beemers come from? You have to think about where you are will to save, others are willing to spend, and it applies to many non-essential items. What people should look for is the very best deal they can get, for what they would like, but sadly most folk are happy to be fleeced for the majority of the **** they buy.

Maybe the starting price of a beemer would have to fall to something more affordable without the need for these finance deals BMW made 3bn in profit a quarter last year so they can hardly claim to be struggling!

yeah i don't need a brand new one! I've been looking around the 20k mark or leasing I'm leaving my options open!

the commute can take anywhere from 1H 20M to 5H 40M (which is my record)

any fiance you don't actually purchase though! even HP you are basically renting until it's all paid off no?

I just mean i have no option to buy my company car at all as if i could i would!

You've not said how long you are aiming to keep the vehicle for, or if you are bothered about owning it at the end, or having a ballon payment etc. If your budget is fixed at 6K, plus say 4 years at £300, then you'll be hitting the £20K mark, and it would have to then be a second hand financed car if you wanted to own it. Saying that you should be able to get a 15/16 335D XDrive for £18-20K, and be worth £9K at the end, depending on how secondhand diesels are selling by 2022 anyhow.

last new car i had i kept for 13 years!! so i do like to get my money's worth lol

You need to consider the servicing and maintenance costs also, since over four years if you are doing 120mi per day then you'll be adding 140K on to it, so if you bought second had with 15-30K on it, you'l be fast approaching 200K miles after 4 years, not sure I'd be keeping it once you start getting repair bills in the thousands not hundreds.
