bbc drops itself in the...ya know. (discrimination)

I'm glad you understand, that is exactly what the initiative the BBC is promoting - supporting those that do not have an equal opportunity.

By not offering equality to another race......way to go!

Also I would be interested to know if there is any basis for believing that BAME under representation exists in the BBC because of a lack of equal opportunity for them.

I hate this term 'under representation' it seems to indicate that there is a bar for 'representation'..what is that bar?

Hey here's a crazy notion, perhaps there isn't an issue with opportunity, perhaps the best person got the opportunity and it was decided on ability and not race?

Too easy though....let's try and load the dice and associate anyone who challenges it as Trump advocates.

Take a course on statistics and come back to this thread.
so you're suggesting there are too many white people?

how would you go about fixing this? white people max of 2 children, ethnic minorities max of 10 per family?

what if the relationship is a white person with a minority partner max of 5 children?

There's no such thing as over-represented. Only a racist person could say there are too many whites.

No, over-representation is when the proportion of group of people in a certain position is higher than the proportion of that group of people relative to the population as a whole. Its a definition.

However, its not necessarily a problem in and of itself.

Perhaps the person with the best ability had better opportunities than others due to their race.

WTF?

its basically saying white people, black people, asian people etc are not the same class of people.
therefore I find it racist that the BBC is suggesting there is a difference between ethnicity that goes beyond the appearance of someone's skin tone

if an african, indian , white person or whatever has exactly the same upbringing, the same experiences, the same education as each other, and the only thing which changes is the ethnicity is the bbc implying they are different purely because of skin tone?
it would seem so and THAT IS RACIST!!!!

you said statistics show there are to many whites!

You need serious help

Perhaps the person with the best ability had better opportunities than others due to their race.

surely thats a problem for society to work out and fix.

You don't fix anything by hiring less talented people based purely on their race. Both the worker hired and the other workers would be perfectly right to be offended.

Complete BS. The BBC themselves used to have a apprenticeship program only for working class people
Working class isn't a race.
There are countless organizations supporting poor white people seeking employment
Poor white people, or just poor people? Show me one that positively discriminates in favour of whites by excluding other racial groups in the same way the BBC is.

You mean by, for instance, proving a workplace training scheme that helps “disadvantaged” people from gaining the experience needed to improve their social mobility?

there are plenty of disadvantaged people to help, but that definition extends beyond race.

I don't disagree, but different charities / organisations are going to focus on specific areas aren't they?

In this case, CreativeAccess focus specifically on BAME.

its a fair point, but its obviously a contentious issue so i can understand some of the complaints.
