So after getting stuck in a lift with my three year old daughter for nearly two hours, and us sitting on my jacket (I have a spinal injury), breaking my Note 4's screen & power button, Tesco have kindly offered to replace the phone.

I have a budget of £500 and they'll reimburse the purchase.

I've so far avoided upgrading from the Note 4 as I liked being able to increase the storage and swap the battery out (for far, far less than Samsung would charge on a sealed phone)

Aside from a couple of South American River third party e-tailers, finding a new Note 4 has proven troublesome.

The phone that's caught my eye is the Oneplus 5T - I always put a Spigen case on my phones and minimise my risk of dropping it in water, so an IPxx rated phone isn't really required.
And I'm not too fussed about a Phablet sized device - I now watch movies etc on my actual tablet.

For the same money, am I missing out on anything much better?

I have a decent DSLR, so the camera is purely for in the moment snaps/video calls.

I do like to listen to music - I have a nice set of AKG reference cans, so a decent DAC is desired (the Note 4 has been brilliant).

I may as well blow the whole budget - I won't be getting the difference if I cheap out.

Ta.

If you're used to the Note 4's screen size, then the S8+ is basically the same width-wise but a bit extra at the top and bottom to make it 6.2" instead of the 5.7" that you had. I went from a Note 4 to an S8+. Not sure if £500 will stretch to it though. You get used to having no home button pretty quickly :-)

Asks for input...
Gets told by a bunch of people the S8 is good...
Buys the One plus...
Thanks the people for advice. xD

Not a fan at all of the curved edges, etc. of the S8 - will be a sad day when I have to upgrade from my Note 4 the way phones are going.

Given what he said about the camera, I think he made a really smart choice despite ignoring the advice he asked for lol. The OnePlus 5t is an incredible value if the camera is generally not vitally important to you. It has no bloatware and is about as close to pure Android as you'll get outside of the Pixel devices. The other advantage is its a lot newer while the s8 is now almost a year into its approximate two years of software updates.

I wouldn't bet on OP and updates. In fact i wouldn't bet on OP regarding anything. Maybe having your card details stolen but not much more.

Pretty much summed up my entire purchase decision.

OP are on the second beta I believe for Oreo so it should be ready soon, no rush.

Your card details are always at risk when buying online, using Paypal can mitigate that risk, otherwise it's always a possibility whether they store your details locally or not.

Having owned an S8 I'd take the Nougat software on the OnePlus any day. Oreo on the S8 beta was quite a lot better but it's still a bit over the top.

Im also considering replacing my note 4, what about best phone for £300 to £400?

Id like something with a camera (almost) comparable to my micro 4:3rds Olympus e-pl5 camera, is that feasible?
I feel like my note 4 isn't too far off in good lighting (outside)

Thinking about the honor view 10, any thoughts?
