Hi,

been selling a few items on Ebay lately and noticed an annoying trend. My auctions are being won right at the end on the final bid by buyers with a name ending in -0 as an example breadandbutter-0. They all have 0 ratings.

Ebay in their wisdom seem to be on the case as they jumped on these users immediately at the end of my auction and cancelled it and removed the user. So I couldnt really examine the user by search or even do a second chance. So have to relist.

I have just had my third auction now being won by one of these -0 bidders but so far Ebay have not seen it. I have reported them to ebay. What is really strange is when I looked at the order details they have no address except a NW2 postcode. It says they have been on ebay since 2011 which is also strange how can they exist with no address I thought you had to have one listed. They have 0 rating. What is strange is under their account they have one person following them. When I look at this persons account they seem to be a genuine user, possibly they fell foul of this person too. Just wondering whether to message this follower and enquire although it could end up being this follower is the scammer.

More proof that people can bypass Ebay's personal checks.

anyone else having problems signing into Ebay? im getting the msg "We ran into a problem. Please try again."

EDIT: nvm its working now

yeah like said above set restrictions on who can bid on your stuff. i did this also i set just about every restriction it would let me do and run into no issues in my whole time using ebay (touch wood).

Unfortunately you can't block bidders with zero feedback, you can only block -1 or worse (I think)

I usually try to keep an eye on who's bidding, and physically cancel bidders with a feedback of 0, or sometimes people have negative feedback left in the positive feedback section (non-payment and stuff)

I feel your pain OP

I have about 6-8 restrictions and yes as above you cant block 0 bidders. I usually do the same and cancel them but these scammers are bidding high in the last seconds so you cant do it.
What with this and the non-paying bidders its getting a pain. Now Ebay are introducing a new pay system with Adyen which I have not read in detail but at first glance they want to take more control of the payments not sure whether this is a good or bad thing. You can still use paypal but as a secondary option till 2020 then no more paypal. Adyen is meant to be cheaper for Ebay but the way it works there is an extra charge just for using them on top of what you pay paypal now.

I feel for honest sellers. I haven’t sold anything for years, last thing I sold was some ram that was fully working.

Next day i get the old its broken crap and i want a refund or replacement lol

That's interesting about Adyen, hadn't heard about the plan to move to them as the main payment processor. Hopefully it will lead to a reduction in seller fee's and fraud but probably end up being even more expensive.

Will inevitably cost more eBay have been pushing up costs for years I lost all faith when they started charging fees on postage costs!

Funny how they originally owned paypal yet spun it off to make money and are now ditching it!

I was surprised about the Adyen payments until I received an email about it. Did a google search and a few news outlets have reported on it. Ebay wanted Paypal to integrate their payments into the EBay website instead of linking to their website and Paypal said no. Paypal wanted to move into more business orientated ventures and Ebay said no whilst they were stilll a partnership so they amicably parted ways in 2015. Paypal were then free to provide services Ebay didnt like such as the credit card machine service to small businesses etc.

This happened to me, was very irritating as I listed it with a £3 final fee figure then the dodgy bid and won and eBay cancelled it all and I thus lost that offer as it wasn’t available any more and had to relist.

They kept on just outbidding the legit people instantly.

I don’t use eBay much TBH and this just reinforces the fact.

I've had my account "compromised" 2 times in as many weeks, just left it closed now. First time they managed to buy a game which was only playable in USA, 2nd time (after changinb all passwords and emails got picked up by Ebay.

Same, had my account compromised couple months ago, just realised recently they hadn't sorted anything out on it.... so I was charged fees for a seller shop I didn't set up and sellers fees. They were supposed to fix all of that.

I've now gotta phone them again to fix it. It took me 6 phonecalls last time to get a refund sort it out. And now i've gott go through it again....

Their customer service is appaling, probably the worst i've ever seen (I'm not exaggerating).

To any of you lot pray you never have to phone them for anything, they don't offer an email as far as I can see either. You have to phone some bloke in India to sort anything out and they've got no clue what they are doing most of the time.

If I sell anything in future that is PC related i'd rather go to the members market on here.

Sadly the not working return excuse is usually used as a get out clause for idiots who have bought the wrong thing.

Erm I live in NW2 and I've been on eBay since 2011, is there any chance you can trust me with any more information please?

Yep thats what happened to me twice. Was even wondering whether Ebay did it themselves as their £3 final fee proved too successful so they used scam bidders to get out of losing money ! So instead of it costing me just £6 its been nearer £30.

I wouldnt worry about it because the account has been removed from Ebay now I got the same message as the others so if your account still works then its not you ! Be a bit of a massive coincidence if it was.

Reading this just made me check if they have 2FA - they do have 2 step verification by text so have enabled that. They should enforce 2FA on sites like this really where accounts being compromised is high.

Set minimum buyers rating to 2, problem solved. Sure it means there is a selection of new people who cannot buy what I am selling, but the vast majority still can.
The "scammers" and general problem people on Ebay cannot be bothered to cheat their account up to 1 rating, let alone 2.

You can't,

The minimum lowest level you can block is -1, you can't block bidders with zero feedback, (which sucks)

Yep,

I have only enabled it now but didn't really think about it before. Never had an account comrpomised in my life until now.

To everyone make sure you enable 2FA.
