I need a UK bank account, is this possible without an address?

I'm originally from the UK, still have my UK passport, lived in Denmark for 10 years. Danish citizen, Danish bank account etc. Still have my UK NI number. Have images of a signed contract for my new employer.

I start a new job on 1st March back in blighty, need to sort out a place to rent and give UK bank details to my new employer.

Also credit history, im assuming I have none now as it's been more than 6 years since I held a british bank account. Will that screw me for renting s place, getting utilities, broadband, phone contract etc?

I have very good credit history here in Denmark.

Anyone have any pearls of wisdom for me?

Cheers, Matt

AFAIK, so long as you have your identity card/passport/driving license and you're an EU national etc, you should be able to open a UK bank account,

You will be able to get something in terms of accommodation, however you might struggle with standard tenancy checks, things like credit "payment history" don't really apply to tenancy credit checks - as they can't see any of your account information, only things like CCJs and bankruptcy (which I assume you're free from), however the big red flag will be that you won't be registered on the electoral roll, which is always a big pain when it comes to just about anything. It also might be a problem that you haven't yet started work in the UK yet, tenancy referencing agencies do routinely ring up employers and verify information before making a decision.

I'd say post on some expert forums as above, but I'd also expect that you might have to cough up 3 or 6 months rent up front, it all depends on the letting agent and landlord,

Alternatively, you could always look for somewhere a bit more "temporary' to go for a few months whilst you wait for your electoral roll to register and you're in work

All really good info thanks.

I have family back in the UK. My Brother has OK'd me to use his address if I need too.

I could stump up 6 months rent if I needed too as I sold my house here in Denmark and have savings.

One problem I do have is I cant really get over to the UK until closer to the end of the month and was hoping I could open a bank account in the UK, transfer some cash and then use that new bank info for setting up everything remotely.

My sister has just moved back from Australia and moved in with my parents. She had a right time of it with the bank. They eventually figured that the best bet was to update the address on her driver’s licence to my parents address, as the dvla would do that without asking for much evidence, and the bank would accept the licence as proof of address.

Yes it's wonderful, they have some of the best public infrastructure in the world, support services that work, awesome health care, fantastic, I'd pay that knowing that if I ever ran into hard times, the state would really help out.
Get yourself over there before the door is shut!
