Looking for a cheap daily runaround, any suggestions?

Requirements:

- 5 door
- Automatic
- Small(ish) - think Nissan Note, Toyoto Auris
- Not Saloon
- Petrol
- Budget: £3000 ish
- Cheap to run
- Reliable
- Not bothered about speed but want it to feel okay for motorway runs
- Not bothered about handling/driving experience/fun (already have a 400bhp S3 for that :P )

Not really sure what to go for, it's the first time I'm buying a "non-performance" car, so far I've seen the likes of:

- Toyota Corolla, Auris
- Honda Civic
- Ford Focus
- Nissan Note
- Nissan Micra

Considered a Fiesta?

I have one (the ST version) and work has a big number of them in their MT fleet and touch wood have never had a problem with either. When they do go wrong, Fords are relatively cheap to repair.

Yup was looking at those, the automatics seem rate to come by (understadable), was looking at Toyota Auris as well
I'd have a look at Corolla as they're a bit cheaper than auris and you'll struggle to find a decent auris under 3k.

I think the top 3 for me would be

Civic
Focus
Corolla

Should be able to find either of those for under 3k

My main car is a 500+ hp Skoda Superb
Just bought a second car for work, shopping etc that matches most of your requirements except price. A mint example would cost under £2000, and it has 4 (yes 4) doors. Read about this peculiarity below.

Size wise is shorter and narrower than the latest fabia but it has more space inside, can turn into a small van for trips to the tip or the seats can form a double bed for camping trips. Rear seats can slide forward for more boot space or backwards for more rear legroom than my Skoda Superb, not a mean feat.

Meet my Honda S-MX.
