The sweets that always stick in my mind from school days were strawberry bonbons, penny chews, also aniseed balls but I would imagine they are still around.

Local corner shop has those already, and whilst they are amazingly delicious, they are far far worse for the gums/teeth!

I've just discovered another molar of mine has a huge gash out of it at the base. Already had 2 removed with another right down at the root.

I used to buy those karate belts by the box from our local newsagent. They were made by Malaco and are no longer produced sadly.

I think I'll just have to close my eyes and imagine their taste and feel forever more.

Sad, so sad.

You can walk into any newsagent or sweet shop and buy those. No idea where you live but round here there's plenty of sweet shops selling them.

Back when I was in school, on the walk home I'd stop by a local newsagent and buy what I'm certain were Karate Belt liquorice strips.

The only Google image I can find is this:

The image is cached from an old Pinterest post that doesn't load any more...

I have the need to buy these again and just can't find any brand or name for them to search against.

Anyone remember these? Anyone remember the name?

Thanks!

They were called karate belts. ;)

I used to love them.

Hah yes! You would end up with bits of belt sticking to the top of your mouth wall, then spending a lifetime dislodging them with your tongue :D

God, those were the days. They lasted forever getting them from the Ice Cream van. :D

Mmmmmmm! Strawberry bon bons. Fireballs and those cinamon things...

Pics for proof?

I have not seen them in any newsagent anywhere down south!
