Hey all,

I have been planning my new rig for a while. For me this will be the first time i have had the opportunity to get a new pc for quite some time, over 10 years!
I cannot wait to get all the bits and pieces put together and enjoy the performance of a new machine.
This whole thing however appears to be getting ruined by the lack of graphic card availability issues. I entirely understand why and how this is happening and to be honest I am struggling to form a sensible and robust argument for why people shouldn't be able to buy what they want and in the quantities they want. It just really annoys me when it seem endless.

I guess, other than just wanting a rant a bit because I am disappointed, I was wanting to know if/when this crazy shortage and price hikes might end? How long will the normal pc builder at home have to wait to get 1 card at a sensible price?
If there is no end in sight what options do I have? Just keep an eye out and pay through the nose? Any thoughts welcome and thanks for allowing me to rant .

But an Xbox one X or a PS4 pro!

Given the price of video cards the new 4k consoles are increasing looking like the better option actually rather than building a new PC as component prices are silly at the moment.

Already got a PS4 and don't really want a pro. My TV isn't 4k so no point really. Plus I enjoy pc building/maintenance.

Just such a shame my time has come as this price and stock thing is hitting.

My assumption, perhaps wrongly, is that the manufacturers will now react to this, up production and hopefully see things get back to ''normal"

This lack of availability can't be good for brands, yes they are selling all they have to offer right now but their devoted and longer term customers will become fed up and walk away, maybe as was said previously, over to Sony and MS.

Yeah, Go console to be honest. I was suitably impressed with my friends PS4Pro. Like I've said in other threads, I'm giving PC 6 months to sort it's self out or I'm making the hop.

At the moment I could sell my GPU and buy a half decent boat! it's madness.

i enjoy both PC and Console gaming experience but do primarily play on console PS4. The Crpyto Currency Market is making GPU's stupid prices. Really not good for pure PC gamers looking to upgrade

You could build your new system but just rely on integrated graphics or a very low end graphics card (or your current card), then just add that later when things become more reasonable.

And the RAM?
I wouldn't give PC's the time of day at the moment. sitting with half a system depriciating on the hope that GPUs and RAM will come down in price? not great idea.

I am in a constant state of upgrading X to buy for Y to give to Z

I decided only last week to give my self yes another upgrade.

Yet again, I simply wasted my time. Im not saying that I completely threw my money away, just that my main PC, the one that I use most of all, does its job and it does it perfectly every time.

My No.1 PC is :-
Asus SabreTooth 990FX R2
AMD 9590 CPU ( H110i cooler )
32GB Dominator DDR3
ATI 7770 ( I have a few 7770 cards and I was running XFire but not doing that right now )
Asus Strix Audio
C:120SSD D:3TB WD Black E:2TBSeagate-Hybrid | F:=1TBWDBlue | T:250Seagate

It has all my software and all my gams and runs them all100% spot on and the thing simply has no issues at all, and has not been turned off or powered down except for when I updgrade or swap a part.

In contrast, my No2 PC is :-
AsRock Crosshair Extreme 370
AMD Ryzen 1800X
32GB Dominator DDR4
ATI 7700 ( Told you lol )
Creative ZXR
C:120SDD D:4TBToshiba Extreme

And my No3
Asus Z170
SkyLark 6700K
32GB G.Skill
2x nVidia 970 SLI
Creative Recon 3D

And only this last week, I threw together and built up a nice 7700X Setup, started on the MM here, I sawe a Z270MX Mobo with CPU for not much less thana brand new setup I have to admit, so I didnt get much of a bargain, but I did fancy trying out a MATX Build for a change. It had an M2 Port so I threw on in right away and was blown away by its speed, however, now that I have stuff installed and I have added a couple of HDs, its no longer as nippy as it first felt.

Thats got 32GB DDR4 Dominator again ( I seem to stick to brands I knowd like ), and I have built a new Media PC out of it.

I have put in an RX480 and my Creative Recon 3D, but the Onboard Graphics are quite decent. The Onboard Audio, even though its SoundBlaster XFI, it does struggle and I have had a few farts in it, Im keeping on it, purely cos I might get away with it once its all fully installed and settled in.

But with everything that I have done with this, I build a Media PC and not a gamer, even though its certainly faster, as the others are, than my main PC.

With everything, I must have spent well over £2000 in compouter bits and my main AMD 9590 does such a perfect job, that these are simply not good enough to make me bother to swap the bits over.

Weirdly, it was the same with the case.

For m,any many years, I was using a Thermaltake Armor case, and I must have bought a dozen other cases only to then dump them, sell them on, or in a few examples, they are stood behind me with other PCs bits cos I could not be bothered to dump them.

I eventually found a Mozart TX case and I am now using that... ONLY because the Armor couls not take a double AIO cooler and the move from AMD 8350 to 9590 really forced that on me.

What I am saying is that I spend a small fortune all the time constantly upgrading my PCs and I am NEVER happy with what I have. The AMD 9590 and Sabretooth Mobo is by far, my favourite PC, and even when I utterly kill it with a high performance PC, its stil not going to lose its place as my No.1, so why do I keep trying?

When I use them for everyday thigns, they are no faster or slower than each other... Its only when I run a benchmark on it that I see any difference. That said, I do convert a lot of videos from one format to another and I do see a difference then, but again, I also built up a 4 CPU, 64 Core Opteron based Server just recently and thats a bloody serious powerful machine when it comes to me wanting to convert huge batches of videos and when I do that, I throw them through the server to do, and I press go and then go to sleep.

Kind of makes me needing a faster desktop PC a waste of time if I am honest.

Horrible time to buy.

I’ll probably upgrade to the next 70 series gpu but no justification for a platform upgrade right now.

Pricing will affect uptake and therefore 6 core plus cpus are less likely to become mainstream.

Maybe go 2nd hand on a DDR3 platform?

You just need a Mac, @FatRakoon and then you can't fiddle and fart about with its innards at all. :p

LOL What would you say, if I told you that I already have 2 Macs and a Hackintosh.

I got a MacMini thats a bit dated now and only worked up to 10.5... It does seem to have an issue in that it gives me the usual Apple "dooong" sound when I power it on but then I get a blan kstare and nothing else.

My Hackintosh is an I5 in an AsRock Mobo with 8GB RAM and both a 240GB SSD and a 4TB WD BLACK that are setup as a hybrid drive. - Who said you cant fet about with Apples.

And I also have a brand new unopened imac I5 under my stairs... Its unopened cos I got it off friends who were given it as a replacement when they failed to replace their PC with another of the same spec, and I argued for them... I built them up one of my old PCs and I get to keep their Imac, but I dont like Imacs and so I am sellign it off... I just need to get the proper paperwork cos I tried sellign it off and it looked suspect.
