Annoying Illustrator Jpg issue

At the moment I keep trying to open up a jpg in Illustrator CS6 and it keeps just loading with the image as a white square.

If I do a Trace I can get just the object lines to come upbut thats about it, no image will actually come through.

Any ideas anyone please?

File > Place
Copying and Pasting In
or just file open and choosing the image

Ctrl + y or preview?

Can you open the file in paint/other programs? I'd be trying "save as" or copy/pasting from them.

Just changes the background from grey to white, nothing changes with the image itself

Without being in front of it it's hard to figure out. Opacity at 100%?

Yes it is at 100%

Trust me, even being in front of it is still hard to figure out. Ive used illustrator before but not experienced a problem like this, but didn't know if there was a checkbox or a setting in preferences that might act out this sort of behavior

Yes thankfully, just resaved it from .jpeg to .jpg extension
