hi does anyone use Plex to cast to their TV?

i've an issue where i cannot cast to my TV from Plex
this used to work like a dream when i was with Sky broadband
i've changed to BT broadband and router and it now won't work

anyone had this issue? i've the synology DS216j
i'm casting from chrome on a macbook pro

:)

Probably related to your earlier thread and the change of subnet.

Did you get that all of that properly sorted (everything on the same subnet and all devices able to see each other)?

Does casting from other sources work as it should?

yes thanks, got the subnet changed and i've reserved it on the router
i can cast youtube to my TV no problems
i can also cast from the synology 'video station' , but it's useless for .mkv
I just have a suspicion it's the router blocking it, but i'm trying to cast locally in the house, so it's probably not port forwarding or anything...?

No reason to expect the router to be blocking any internal traffic (probably not even possible).

In what way does it fail? For example if I try to cast from the Plex Web App I get the message 'No Cast destinations found. Need help?', which is correct as my Chromecast isn't connected to anything at the moment.

I find that using the Plex client on my Fire TV sticks is a more convenient than casting.

when i select the cast button, my TV appears in the list, i select it and it tries to start the cast
Plex logo appears on the TV screen but it can't cast, the timer spins and it never starts

i was looking at maybe buying a chrome cast or something to see if it worked better
so do the fire sticks have a PLEX app on them?

ok, i've just downloaded Plex app on the xbox one
streaming it to fine :) (wasn't connecting at first but i had to put my NAS IP in)

no xbox in the living room though, will just have to use the long HDMI cable for now

I find serviio works great, just finds any/all tv's and works.
No need for subnetting at all.
