The Wife has just been informed that when she took her car in to get it MOT'd last July, they did everything to it EXCEPT the MOT! This means shes had no TAX,MOT and has been illegally insured since July 2017.

This could have possibly been sorted had she not been given a speeding ticket for going 35 in a 30 zone in an area she hadnt been to before. The wife has received the producer through the post and is setting about getting it all MOT'd and up to date now but any ideas how severe this is going to be?

Well if she booked it in for an MOT and they didn't do it, the garage are kind of at fault.

However, when they didn't produce an MOT certificate she should have taken it up with them there and then. So I doubt you'll get anywhere.

Yeah this pretty much. Sadly for her, it's her responsibility to ensure it's MOT'd. Not receiving that certificate means she didn't.

Could be pretty harsh.

I got done (in Cyprus) for the same, in August. Still waiting my fine, if I ever receive it.

I figured as much. We just worried what the outcome may be now.

I believe that no MOT is up to £1,000 and the same again for Road Fund.

Hopefully you can convince them it was stupidity and not deliberate evasion.

These are the sort off offences that you hear leading to the car getting crushed.

Driving Without Insurance

fined up to £5000 if you are caught, although the typical fine is often a lot less than this. You will also be given a number of penalty points on your driver's licence.

.GOV.org says typically £600 + 6 penalty points

Driving Without an MOT

and can land you with a £1000 fine, but will not usually result in penalty points

Driving Without Road Tax

If you are found to have failed to purchase or renew your road tax, you will be fined

I was driving for about 4 months last year without an MOT. I'd convinced myself it wasn't due till February. I was reporting a break in and the woman kindly told me I'd had no MOT since September and advised I get it sorted as soon as possible. I'd had no problems driving around for months. I'd even been followed by traffic police down the motorway and they didn't do anything.

Yes, however the wife got flashed by a speeding camera a month back and has had a producer which means they've probably already ran the checks on the car?

So you've not been told it hasn't MOT yet. Just get it MOTd and take it from there.

As for the tax, it can be done by direct debit now so not sure how it even ran out?

It does a check for a valid MOT when you try to tax online so she wouldn't have been able to tax it.
Has it been SORN'd? You shold have had a fine through the post after 3 months without tax.

She should just get away with it if the car is MOT'd and Taxed at time of producer..

Technically she had a valid insurance certificate, although she was at risk of invalidating it should she have a crash.

My friend was recently caught speeding and got sent the ticket to a previous address (obviously not updated his license), 3 months later they contacted him through REG check and sent a court summons to his new home. He was panicking because he hadn't changed his address, as The DVLA can impose a £1000 fine for not doing so.

He received a £150 fine and 3 points for the speeding ticket, no further action was taken.. They didn't even ask him about the license information because he pled guilty by post.
