Hi Everyone,

So I just recently got myself a new GPU and now looking at upgrading the rest of the kit, went a bit overboard with the GPU purchase with some impulse buying thanks to OCuk discount code!

I have found this in the jungle:

AMD Ryzen 5 1600 Desktop CPU - AM4/Hex Core/GHz/16MB/65W = £154

Asus ROG STRIX X370-F Socket AM4 AMD X370 DDR4 S-ATA 600 ATX Gaming (used very good) = £148

Patriot Memory 16 GB DDR4 3200 MHz 16 GB DDR4 3200 MHz – Memory Module = £165

Total = £467

Planning to get the cheaper CPU and OC to around 4ghz for gaming and normal speeds for working etc.

Then a year or so later upgrade to the newer AMD CPU's.

What you guys reckon? Better option available for similar price?

if your after asus, go new for EU warranty at least , and OCUK would handle it . plus b350 version does just as well or the same as x370 chips/version

Team group highly regarded on here along with G.Skill , but if that Patriot ram is supported by then board, then its a good price

My basket at Overclockers UK:
Total: £487.43 (includes shipping: £10.50)

im guessing you bought Strix GTX 1080 Ti? or if you got Gigabyte and fancy UK RMA and rep support on the forum

been winning over a lot due to increased support over last 2 years or so. But either board - (fan of both and used many strix/Gaming Builds) will do you fine :)

heads up with Overclock... might not hit 4GHz, I hit 3.95Ghz due to ussing good AIO, 3000hz ram and luck of the draw with the chip I got .

Yes I got the Strix GTX, I am open to other boards as long as they have easy to OC options like the ASUS boards. I am not to fussed about the lighting gimmicks tbh so am actually looking closely at your second suggestion.
I have a CM Seidon 240v AIO cooler at the moment, hoping this will be enough for an OC as close as 4ghz as possible.

what res is your current monitor ?

240 AIO is fine for ryzen 1700 :)

whats our budget along with games you play? may find intel is better for prue gaming and if our after best frame rates, specially with lower resolutions

Unfortunately my monitor is outdated just like rest of my kit! Max resolution is 1920-1200, will be updating that next.
Budget is around £450ish I would say but ideally the less the better! But I definitely want a board that I know can last me for a while hence the Ryzen path.
Mostly play MMO's, but am looking at trying out some of the newer games soon. I have always been a budget gamer so I have never been crazy about getting top FPS on ultimate settings, high settings on a respectable res is ok by me. ANything more is good to have. Got the 1080ti so I can hopefully play on ultra settings for a change :P

Wow,. Lol
The above two should do you fine but that monitor... For that Ti beast your going to want/need at least 1440p screen that has a fresh rate over 60hz . Any less, it's a waste on the card or will tax your CPU to high heaven !

One hell of an impulse buy hehe :)
Ryzen 1600 should do you well and help stash funds for Monitor. And don't forget, your going to need a damn good 650w PSU for that Ti . There's a time and place for budget PSU .. this ain't one of them

Nah PSU is fine in terms of power, its a Coolermaster RealPower 850W Modular PSU. I had to go round to my mums attic to find my old 8pin cables that originally came with the PSU, only been using the 6 pins ones uptill now. Question is how much longer it will last! its 1 month short of a decade when i first bought it.
When I originally built my PC it was the only time I actually spent a lot, back when I got my first job and had no gf or anything else in life other than just mmo's and work. Alas times have changed now with a family and a mortgage need to think things through before spending too much money on my PC. Although impulsive buying is a weakness of mine, who knows if I come across a good deal i might just end up buying top of the range mobo bundle. Was quite tempted by the 8 pack ones but no gotta resist else the mrs gonna be on my case!

had one of those way back when. one by one the plug in sockets failed :(

Gigabyte package sounds good but if your OCD like myself in builds. strix would give uniform theme. Both handle ryzen nicely .

might get away with hardware upgrades as the are hidden.... NO WAY! will you get off scot-free with a monitor... which that card needs
