How many have sold up or gone GPU'less?

Must admit I'm tempted to stop PC gaming all together, doesn't look like GPU and RAM prices will fall anytime soon and the longer I leave it the less my setup will be worth.

There is the option to run without a discreet GPU and take a huge hit on visuals and FPS but also buy a console.

I'm 36 and owned a PC for gaming since the 486 days so it will be a very strange change for me but the prices are beyond ridiculous now and as more and more people stop buying hardware for gaming, less games will sell and less will be developed for the platform, if things carry on the way the way they are surely this is inevitable.

What have you considered regarding current and future setup because of the cost of hardware situation?

Anyone that states prices will fall, is there any factual evidence of this because with all of the reading I've done I see nothing that proves prices will come down.

Luckily I bought just before the crypto boom and so I got some reasonable prices for my parts. That's said, I did think that RAM and SSD prices were a little high but they've rocketed up now.

The most interesting release is the AMD R5 2400G with Vega on board graphics. This has the approximate power of the AMD RX 550 graphics card. If AMD can somehow release an APU that can match the RX 570 or GTX 1050Ti then it would truly disrupt the market and bring GPU-less gaming systems to the masses.

Selling up is something I have considered but I'm in quite heavy with a VR headset, steering wheels and all manner of peripherals. That's not to mention the 100+ games I own on Steam.

I think if you already own a reasonable PC and are in the market for a graphics card then you can still get console beating quality at less than console prices. But if you are looking at a complete new build then you are in for a world of hurt. Current prices must surely be putting off new builds.

Selling up is not a option for me as I have way too much invested in Steam. My pc should still be good for at least another couple of years, maybe more as I never buy triple A titles and rarely buy ne releases. If component prices stay as they are though though this will be the last pc I ever build with all new parts.

Haven't had a proper gaming stint since last summer, sold my 1080ti when I got rid of my 3440x1440 monitor, then bought a 1080 to use on my 4k OLED, that lasted a couple of months before I stepped down to the 1060 I have now and even that is overkill as I don't play anything demanding, a 4gb 1050ti would probably suffice atm.

That new Kingdom Come: Deliverance has me intrigued but I'd need at least a 1080ti I'd imagine to run it on decent settings at 4k, not paying the current prices so I'll see what's on offer with nVidia's next-gen although I haven't got my hopes up for a good performance per dollar card at 4k.

I think as long as blockchain technology depends on GPUs then I cant see those prices shifting unless one of the big manufacturers produces mining-only cards with added factory space. RAM prices should come down, possibly not to the levels we were used to three/four years ago. It is a bit frustrating, but PC gaming is still a profitable venture for the invested companies, so they will find ways to make it affordable or the whole industry is in trouble. I'm sure some clever engineers will find ways to make their games run on the most common hardware. So, on your original question, in my case my 7 year old sandy bridge cpu with 780ti runs all my games at playable frame rates at 1440. It is a bit long in the tooth and I want to upgrade, but I wont be until GPU prices come back to sensible levels.

Sold my 4K screen and my GTX 1070 about a month ago. Currently have a 20" Dell (1650x1050) and a GTX 950, plus i'm still using an i5 2600K. So I should be good for PS4 level quality and performance, probably a bit better.

For me, the cost of PC gaming at max settings isn't worth it anymore. I played Doom on PS4 as well as on PC at 4K with all the bells and whistles. I had the same experience on both platforms.

This is the issue for me as well, I don't mind paying the extra £££ when I'm getting a noticeably better experience but that gap has been closing for years now, still can't bring myself to buy a console though, I hate using controllers for certain genres and I'm not sure how good the M/KB converters really are?

Some console games support KB & mouse, I'm pretty sure PUBG does.

Microsoft have hinted at KB and mouse support as well. If that happens then I can see a lot more PC gamers jumping ship.

Pretty sure Xbox One X is getting KB / Mouse Support added in the near future, which means it will also go to the other Xbox One console variants too...

This is the only thing stopping me right now from selling my 1070 and buying an Xbox One X so the kids can have my Xbox One, i play mainly ARPG's and MMORPGS, i have TESO, D3 and POE on my Xbox One currently, they are great but i miss the Kb / Mouse to really play them, Grim Dawn is coming to Xbox soon as well.

The minute that Microsoft adds KB and Mouse Support to Xbox one X my PC days are pretty much over, will still keep a laptop for work stuff, but as for gaming, its adios.

Luckily I think I can last for some time with my current hardware, at least 3 or 4 years I would think.

There is no way I would recommend to anyone to build a gaming pc at the moment. Ram and GPU prices are completely insane.

The boy could probably do with a system upgrade, he's running a core 2 duo with a hd7750 lol. It kinda plays rocket league and fortnite well enough for him I guess, but really it's pushing it...

Fingers crossed nothing in my system breaks or that could leave me with a difficult decision to make. I guess I could sell the PS4 and use the money from that as we never use it.

I jumped ship in Nov and have been having a great time playing with friends. I have the cash saved for a new build but the value is so low it's not worth it. That and I'm a little concerned with how the current prices will effect pc gaming long term. I'm not sure I want to buy into something that may end up getting worse and worse support

We don't know that prices will fall but we know they must fall, if companies are serious about not losing the gaming market. So the hope is they will find a way to do it.

Something else I find odd is that of you go on the oc.net there's a tiny two page thread about prices and that's it. Business as usual otherwise. I fear it's just going to become the norm.

That's because OCN is dead. Since the owner sold out and the site migrated it's a ghost town, and there's little to keep people going back.

I thought about giving it all up myself, but the oculus rift is to dam good to give up. I’m in the process of putting together a ‘new’ build myself, there’s not a chance in hell im spending silly money on DDR4, so instead I have bought a 2nd hand i7-4970, 2nd hand DDR3 1600hz, a cheap microITX board, and have scoured the Internet for the best priced PSU and SSD I can find, also I have found a small semi local computer shop that has 1060’s at normal prices, tempted to sell my r9-290 that I was going to use and buy the 1060 (not too much difference in performance but the hea would be much less, so ideal for a small build)

I saw a Titan X Maxwell with EVGA AIO cooler go on the bay the other day for £600.

I have 2x in SLI, so was tempted to sell one of them.

I'll have had it for 3 years as of March, and paid £880 for it so that's pretty good!

At the moment I mainly play Xbox One X - I've racked up 4 days worth of PUBG.

Edit - No cheaters on Xbox either...

Yes, definately a lot of people thinking this way ATM. I think I will be okay for few years yet, but I cant see me doing a complete new build with current prices of RAM and GFX Cards. The other things holding me back are in no particular order -

1. My Oculus is great and I am loving VR
2. My Steam account is mahoosive (743 games so far)
3. I cannot play FPS games with my crap thumbs (I cant shoot for **** with a M&K let alone a controller:p)

My other problem is my son will be wanting an upgrade next year as he is on an i5 3570, so I will be looking at Ram, Mobo, processor and Heatsink/Fan and more than likely a case. Luckily he already got a 1070, so missed the bullet there.

I do feel sorry for those that were looking into PC gaming and are not able to get in due to current pricing though. :(

Same here, Steam has me by the gonads, I'm currently thinking of moving back to my 1080p monitor and just using VSR/DSR when my 480 has the grunt to let me.
