Friends dog bit someone

it's "reasonable" to be expect to be able to post a letter without a dog biting you

Posting letters through a letter box yes, putting your hand through a letter box to retrieve a letter is different. I don't need to put my hand through a letter box to post a letter.

Hi, not really after legal advice, just people's experience. Basically a friend is being sued

Analyse and systematically destroy her life until she commits suicide.

Not sure exactly why, but the thought of being sued, and being falsely imprisoned really riles me up.

What proof exists that it was your friends dog that did this?

Witnesses? Photos? Half a chewed off arm poking through the letterbox?

Dog exterminated, owner imprisoned for 15 years, Sun newspaper exclusive interview with the victim (who said of the carnage, "It was like a warzone"). Deceased dog later found to have links to Al Qaieda and ISIS, and was funded by Russian mafia...
Roll a D20 to see if Dangerous Dogs Act gets expanded to ban all forms of pet from the UK.

See, you'd never find a cat doing this...cats > mutts.
No, never....... https://www.google.co.uk/search?q=c...x-b&gfe_rd=cr&dcr=0&ei=qa-OWu_2C6fA8gf8vKjQCQ

Dogs at least can be trained out of going for someone at the door. Cats will always just do what the eff they like...

Also comments like "effectively trespass" and "attempted break-in" - none of this would wash in court for even a second.

Courts and judges generally use what is "reasonable" when making judgements, and it's "reasonable" to be expect to be able to post a letter without a dog biting you, and it's reasonable to expect this would not be considered an attempted trespass or break-in
Load of bandwagon jumpers as per usual..

Good luck with the case, wouldn't get your hopes up though. Why haven't you got a cage for the mail?

Would try to claim she cut it on the letterbox if you can tbh, for your dog's sake

B@

Nah that's reasonable. You're only allowed to use reasonable force in self defense. Setting your dog to attack is beyond that.

I would think it would be reasonable to set your dog on an armed intruder who is coming at you for your own self defence.

EDIT: I like how posts go off track so easily these days. Women get bit trying to retrieve letter to setting dog on masked intruder inside your home!

"may" being the operative word. What she was doing wasn't unreasonable really.
Seems unreasonable to me.

First off she posted in the wrong letterbox, no one's fault but her own. And her first instinct was to put her whole arm in? Surely the reasonable thing to do would be to come back later when someone is in? Did she knock on the door before putting her arm through? If so, knocking will have alerted the dog to bark or growl. If she heard that and still stuck her arm in, this is her own fault.

Also if this was a letterbox at 'normal' height I'm fairly sure the majority of people's arms could not reach the floor.

Nothing I guess (I love when GD stretches scenarios to breaking point :D )but I'm not sure what you have worth knicking that is a) within reach of your letterbox and b) would fit though it :p

Given the huge number of cars stolen by people that have fished the keys through the letter box your statement well off the mark :p Not as common now given that people are more aware but certainly not an unlikely scenario. Add to that the fact if she is reaching in to grab 'her' letter she can also grab your own mail. Not really acceptable behavior in my opinion but she has enough to try and sue under the terms of the law but lets be honest that would have to be one dog hating son of a bitch of a judge to rule in her favour :D
