so as the title says bought a GTX 1060 and every time I tried to play a game like COD WW2 the game crashed with a DX error. So after lowering all game settings, setting up WW2 in Nvidia Control Settings and DDU all graphics settings from the system and registry I reinstalled the drivers latest and downgraded to an earlier stable version it still crashes. DXDiag showed no errors and Heaven and 3DMark also ran ok and didn’t hang but still no joy. So I swapped back to the HD 7950 and this card now crashes, not with the same DX HUNG error but loads the game and goes to start and within seconds black screen and I had to reboot. The game files verify fine in steam so I’m at a loss. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

No not yet. I’m going to install an NVMe SSD in the system and do an install of Win 10 to see if that makes any difference. I have read that people have reinstalled Internet Explorer and it’s solved the problem but there are so many different stories about resolving Grfx issues. I’ve spent the last two days trying various different configurations on the AMD Radeon profile for the original card that worked for COD WW2 but no joy. I’m thinking that either the Nvidia card has damaged the mobo or the uninstall process has removed something vital to the GFX function when switching from the Radeon HD 7950 to the GTX 1060. #Gutted

Found this solution via google.

1.) Open "Nvidia control pannel"
2.) click on "3D settings" - click on "Adjust image settings with preview" - click on "Use the advanced 3D image settings" - click "Apply"
3.) click on "Manage 3D settings" - click on "Program Settings"(it is the tab next to Global Settings)
4.) click on "Add" and add the CallOfDuty WW2 executable/app/program to the list
5.) from the list/dropdown "Select the preferred graphics processor for this program" select "High-performance NVIDIA processor" - click "Apply"

Worth a go to see if it solves your problem.

Thanks Freddie64 but I did already see this and the new Nvidia control settings doesn't let you choose High Performance NVidia Processor anymore. You can chose a performance on the power management and tailor some of the other settings for Max performance but I've tried all sorts and still not good. Even disabled the profile all together on he Nvidia and the Radeon and chose to let the application make the choices but still no good. I'm wondering about re-installing the base mobo drivers in case its anything to do with corrupt Z97X drivers

Hi guys, so things have moved on a little. Took a while to get another disk built with windows 10 as the NVMe was GPT and the BIOS was legacy so sorted that, built windows 10 and installed both the AMD and the Nvidia cards and both crashed again. So I've moved to a x8 PCIe slot and I've now managed to play Wolfenstein New Order and Toom Raider for 30+ minutes without it crashing. But if I try to play COD WW2 it crashes with DXGI_Error_Device_Hung error. I'm deleting all DX .CAB files from the COD WW2 Redist folder under steam apps and I've run the DXSetup.exe and then validating the local files. Its sees there are files missing and is set to download them. I will then launch the game and hopefully will reinstall the DX components and fix the game. I will update you as and when done.

When I swap graphics cards I always do a fresh windows install regardless. Saves any faffing about with driver removal. Clean fresh install will give you a nippier machine anyway.

I had a sort of similiar situation a month or so back when I cleaned up my 7950, and neither it nor the 7750 I tried to replace it with worked easily. I then looked at the PCIe slot and noticed a bit of dust had gathered around the slot and a little in the slot, so I blew it out, and reinstalled the cards. It was subsequently able to work well afterwards without issues after using DDU and reinstalling the latest drivers. You might want to give it a quick glance when you next get inside your machine just to be sure.

Good ideas with the BIOS update and the dust in the PCIe. I have seen a BIOS update for the mobo but it only says that it is for 5th/6th gen Intel CPU's. But it must have other improvements. As for the dust in the PCIe, this is highly likely or a damaged connector.

I am able to play Tomb Rader and Wolfenstein New Order now without issues running in the PCIe x8 slot but whenever I try COD WW2 it just crashes with the "Get DeviceRemovedReason" failed with DXGI_ERROR_DEVICE_HUNG error every time. I can't find any way to re-install the game but I have deleted the DirectX and reinstlled and verified the files but still, same issue. Not played WW2 for two weeks now, gutted!

So I just flashed the BIOS to F8 and tested the card in WW2 and crashed again straight away with the same DXGI HUNG error. So how can the card work in Wolfenstein but not in COD WW2? unless one is a DX11 and the other DX12. Running out of ideas now!!!

As above possibly PSU but also a strange thought crossed my mind. Is this definitely a proper 1060 and not a knock-off one being masqueraded around as a 1060 when in fact it's something different under the hood?

Only a thought anyway
