I have read (and studied) this card about five times and after a lot of self-doubting I have finally come to the firm conclusion that it makes no sense.

What say you, GD?

well its mother was a butterfly, shes turned into a butterfly. Have you been drinking?

yeah it is a bit weird...

according to that butterflies turn into caterpillars, which is barse ackwards

the other one isn't supposed to be the mother but presumably just another friend/person she's talking to - the mother is being referred to in the third person

Well I assume the emerging butterfly on the right is talking to her slightly younger friend caterpillar on the left. So yes it does make sense to me.

Haha no drinking here :D

Mind = blown. Just... wat... why do that!!! Surely have the actual mother to the left or something? If that is the true extent of the joke, it clearly flew below my lower threshold of processing abilities :p

Yup - that’s how I read it too!

The face of the one of the left looks waaaay older tho. So understandable if people thought that was the mother.

I don't think it's funny in any case.

Well it's aimed at women, I don't mean that in a misogynistic way, but I guess it is a common enough thing for one woman to say to another: "OMG I'm turning into my mother"

I agree it is pretty lame.

The way I read it is that women usually don't want to turn into their mother, the "humourous" twist to this card is that in this instance it's actually a positive... however the presence of the older looking caterpillar on the left does confuse as it implies that the caterpillar is the mother.

All that being said, it really is a **** card!

The one on the right is turning into a butterfly and exclaiming to the one on the left that she is turning into her mother (who is / was also a butterfly). A play on the kind of comment some people make to cast their behaviour in a negative light by drawing similarities between it and a parent with similar traits.

That's my understanding if it anyway. The premise is sound but it is still a pretty rubbish card. :)
