On the road....
Got an excellent deal on a Zotac Amp Extreme yesterday at the motors meeting, it was B grade and as such I’ve been testing it vigorously.

The only thing I’ve found is the fans don’t seem to be controllable manually be it via Afterburner or Firestorm.

If I run a stress test such as Furmark they ramp up quickly as temps rise and then slow to a stop once I end the test, after however they do seem to periodically spin up and then stop even though I’m at desktop.

A bit of Googling seems to point to this as a trait of the card rather than a fault, can anyone confirm this?

Otherwise it seems just fine.

Thanks.

I have the Zotac Amp Extreme 1070 and yes on auto the fans ramp up and down according to load/heat
You can set them in Firestorm.Don`t know about Afterburner
If you click Advanced you can set a fan curve

Ah, cheers.

So I can manually set them via a fan curve but not by moving the slider (which does nothing in firestorm for me)?

In firestorm click on manual and try to move the slider?
Have done, has no effect - neither does moving the slider in afterburner - on my previous Asus 1070 I could with either (had firestorm installed even though I didn’t have a Zotac card then)
The sliders move, click apply and the card stays silent, fire up Furmark or say GTA V @ 4K and the fans ramp up within a few minutes.

Just rechecked mine and it works as i said
You on the latest Firestorm software?
Maybe uninstall the firestorm, afterburner and try to reinstall just one of them?
or maybe uninstall gfx drivers and reinstall latest ?

Tbh, I’ve only installed new drivers, everything else was installed previously when I had a 1070, I’ll remove it all when I get home and try downloading again.

Thanks for the help mate. :)

The fans spinning up and down on desktop is a problem with zotac cards and I could never get mine to stop it as firestorm starts the fans up at 50c oddly rather than MSI cards which come on at 60c. I could never adjust this point even in afterburner.

However they shouldn't spin up rapidly. Rather start to spin at 50c. Depends how fast your card is heating up.

I perhaps over exaggerated when I said they spin up quickly, more they start up after a few minutes of Furmark but even after an hour of that running the highest temp I’ve seen was 76c which is mighty impressive, they barely come on at all whilst gaming - except GTA V @4k which seems to wake them up quickly for some reason - an hour plus on Battlefield 4 or Battlefront 2 and they don’t come on at all!

I’ve re-downloaded and reinstalled afterburner and Firestorm but still have no manual control it appears, the slider can be moved but with no effect, new Nvidia drivers have made no difference even after running DDU I tried Zotacs own drivers which made no difference either and just seem to be the standard release Nvidia ones anyway.

After lots of Googling it appears many Zotac owners have this issue I’m taking it as a trait of this card and am assuming it’s why it was a B-Grade, most likely returned because of this issue which at full price would be understandably annoying but I’m happy to put up with for what I’ve paid.

I used to use manual control with my old 1070 to keep it cool but don’t seem to have the need with the Amp Extreme, it’s cooler is excellent, it was just bugging me that I couldn’t turn them up if I wanted to other than setting an extreme fan curve which seems rather pointless given I’m not having the heat issues I was expecting with a 1080ti
