Taking card payments

Your bank that you have your business account with should be able to assist.

Just work out the transaction fees Paypal & Paypoint will be far and away the most expensive! Also give some consideration PCI DSS as well.

Good advice, the headline PPT might be good but other charges like terminal rental, PCI charges or even invoicing might be expensive. Look at the total cost of the service.

I'd steer clear of WorldPay, my missus used their Hub POS as I worked for them and she was a test case.

Terrible device and poorly supported.

I can't convince her that spending a couple of hours switching is time well spent. She much prefers spending hours on the phone to them and then complaining to me!

Elavon might be worth looking at, I only have experience from an provider of integrated solution perspective. Either way tread carefully as there are some cowboys out there.

When you bill your customers with iZettle Invoice they pay via online card transaction. This means they simply click a link in their email, enter their card details and complete the sale. You can save their names and email addresses for speed of service next time, and we'll even track the payment for you — all for a transaction fee of 2.5%. More info

LOL

So if you have a £10 transaction, it costs 25 pence to "save a name and email addresses".

But if you have a £1000 transaction it costs £25 to "save a name and email address".

Hahahaha. That is comedy.

Best advice for all humanity is to simply refuse all electronic payments until they can stop stealing everyone's money.

izettle/sumup etc are a cheap way to be able to say 'we take card payments' but a rented terminal could work out cheaper depending on transactions

also remember you need a phone/tablet for izettle/sumup etc, so if it's never going to move away from the till/checkout then probably not ideal

This is where crypto currencies come into their own, no need to faff about with companies to set things up and process payments, just download a wallet and you're good to go to receive and send payments all for a set fee that you can decide for yourself depending on how fast you want it to be processed (none of this % of transaction nonsense)

You do realise that all CC companies charge a merchant fee, right?

Yes of course, it is alluded to in the post you quoted. Where is said people should avoid or "refuse all electronic payments".

So yes I am aware all companies take these baseless "cuts" or fees as they like to call them.

Thanks for your question. :)

Baseless? Should companies give you a piece of plastic with some free money, insurance, etc. without charging anyone anything at all?

I'm very sorry I'm not following your train of argument here.

Lets go back to the first post where I explained the following:

"So if you have a £10 transaction, it costs 25 pence to "save a name and email addresses".

Are you saying this same company hands out cards with free money on them, and then charges 2.5% per transaction to make up for the free cash it hands out?

Honestly I have no clue what you're talking about. I honestly had no clue that these transaction processors hand out cards with free cash on them. So yeah I've obviously had no clue that these companies also have to subsidise free cash giveaways.

By the way can you help me out I had a quick google for free cash giveaway but cant find anything.

I have world pay they charge reasonable fees and seem decent although recently a customer we had to refund also had world pay for his business and slated them a lot

Said Lloyd’s was cheaper also quicker to get money

I would look at how much you think you might do on the machine to see what one to go for

The acquirers and issuers split the merchant fees, some issuers use these to provide cashback cards to encourage people to use them so they can take a cut. American Express are good for this you can make hundreds of pounds a year simply by using their card, they have a higher transaction fee than Visa/Mastercard.

It is not as simple as saying a company should stop taking cards/electronic payments many customers only want to pay with this method, could you imagine buying anything online without card payments. Paypal are generally more expensive than other acquirers for transaction fees. Businesses also have cash handling fees to take into account and offset against card fees.
