Happy Commonwealth Day to our members

Just like to wish any members here who are in our Commonwealth a happy day, it hasn't garnered a lot of coverage, but the BBC are showing some snippets now. Do we actually have any members in other Commonwealth countries reading this apart from Magnolia? I am sure we have some in Ireland.

I thought it was, it used to be.... Oh, it was excluded in 1949 when it became a republic, showing my age (and ignorance) here

I for one have no problem with our colonial past. God knows what percentage of whining students are actually benefiting from the largesse of our past colonialists where they study. Sad anyone seen to celebrate our Commonwealth is seen as a troll, I suppose that's what 2 generations of student brainwashing by liberals does.

Some of it's quite negative. I wouldn't for an instant suggest that we should attempt to cover up our history, but to celebrate some of the darker parts of it...I don't know.

It wasn't easy being the responsible adults of the planet, but we stepped-up to the thankless task. Sure we had to give the kids a slap every now and again, but it was for their own good.

I see the commonwealth as a sign of peace and freedom risen from the ashes of colonisation and empire, sort of.

I think about a third of the planet live in the Commonwealth, so let's hope they are less negative of their heritage than some here are about us celebrating it <LOL>
