hey guys, i need some advice on internal components, past and present (not used parts)..
Been mulling over this for nearly a month now, my dads old pc blew up and he cant use a craptop for eyesight issues.

Basically i need a whole new set of internals, processor, board, ram (4 gig), psu and a cheap as chips gfx card..
I am not fussed on what platform its on, amd or intel, already have the case (matx)..

This is the kicker.. I have £300 to spend.. no negotiating on the price, this is my money am spending ha ha

Can yas put ya heads together and see what yas can come up with..

thanks in advance :)

Hi,

This is from me - a processor with graphics, dual-channel 8GB DDR4 memory, micro-ATX motherboard and a 400W Bronze PSU:

My basket at Overclockers UK:
Total: £290.98 (includes shipping: £11.10)

This is pretty much the same build i was gonna do myself, only prob is the processor is raven ridge and the board most probably is not.. I would have to strip down my own pc just to update the bios on that am4 board to get the APU to work :(

i would ignore this build, purely on the basis of having a motherboard with NO video output (whilst using an APU)
aka. a non workable system.

This is better:

My basket at Overclockers UK:
Total: £304.06 (includes shipping: £11.10)

Again thank you so much for your input but as i said earlier, the am4 board is probably not set up for the 2200G, i would have to strip down my own new pc to get this one working..

imma gonna go bargain basement with this one

My basket at Overclockers UK:
Total: £227.42 (includes shipping: £10.50)

given that the only thing being done is web browsing, i don't know if paying 50% extra on a 2200g build would be the best use of funds.
yes i know performance-wise the 2200g trumps the g4650, but ffs it's just web browsing.

Workarounds

The following workarounds may be feasible for affected users, depending on their individual circumstances, and should be considered before applying the boot kit solution detailed below:

Update from Retailer
If the motherboard was purchased through a computer parts retailer, check with the retailer to see if they can facilitate the BIOS update at their location. There may be a charge for this, or it may be offered at no cost.

If you have access to a processor supported on the current installed BIOS, use it to perform the BIOS update, then swap out the processors when the update process is complete.
For a list of supported processors per BIOS version, please refer to the CPU Support List document available on the motherboard manufacturer's website. BIOS download and installation instructions are also found on their website.
If these workarounds are not feasible, please see the sections below for a solution.

Original Manufacturer Replacement
The Original Design Manufacturer (ODM) of the motherboard will support affected end users with an RMA exchange for a compatible motherboard, upon request. Affected end users are recommended to contact their local representative for the motherboard manufacturer to exchange their motherboard.

Short Term Processor Loan "Boot Kit"
AMD will offer affected and qualified users (as described below) a AMD AM4 A-series processor including thermal solution for short term use ("boot kit") to perform the BIOS update on their motherboard.
This short-term processor loan or boot kit is offered through AMD warranty services and is available only for qualified users that have made a valid purchase of a Ryzen processor with Radeon Vega graphics and are affected by this specific boot up issue.
This service is free of charge with the following condition:
Once you have submitted your claim for a processor loan boot kit, AMD will require a picture of your Ryzen with Radeon Vega graphics processor, that clearly shows the model number and unique serial number as well as a copy of the purchase invoice to authorize the request. Additionally, a summary or copy of communication with the motherboard manufacturer is requested to indicate why support from the Original Design Manufacturer (ODM) is not suitable.
Once the RMA request is approved, the AMD AM4 A-series processor will be sent with pre-paid return shipping. The processor is expected to be returned within 10 business days of receipt. It is not necessary to return the provided thermal solution.

To obtain the boot kit, please carefully follow these instructions:
Go to the AMD online warranty claims page: https://support.amd.com/en-us/warranty/rma
Fill in your full contact and product details (Ryzen with Radeon Vega graphics processor model number and serial number)

In the Problem Description field enter "Boot kit Required" (without quotes)

NOTE: The product must be a valid AMD processor with authentic OPN and serial number.
Once the claim is received and approved, confirmation details and boot kit instructions will be provided in a follow up email.

I would ignore any Intel based configuration because of the crap graphics.

Hey thats not bad at alll, am not clued up on intel myself.. Thanks

I am considering the 2200G build, its just the pain in the arse of either stripping down my own pc to get it working or wait the forever and a day for amd to "borrow" me a kit to do it.. either one sounds like a chore :(

I agree with the dude above....get the G4560, I can't see a web browsing machine needing the 2200G's superior integrated graphics which is a good chunk of the cost.

My own parents are still using a G860 from 2011 with 4GB of ram and SSD for HTPC/Web and it's perfect. A G4560 is twice as fast and would last years.

In fact with the money saved by going G4560 (make no mistake - still a very good CPU) you could also get an SSD which will make a collosal difference in a machine of this type.

I'm not sure why you'd spend more on the APU when I assume it'll be a web browsing machine? The extra cash could go towards and SSD which will make the biggest difference to the whole system.

Edit: and an SSD takes a lot less management and care to keep running quickly.

Already have an ssd, the case plus a 1tb seagate barracuda which in all fairness i was told was an ossome drive for gaming which i later discovered my 10 year old laptop drive worked better so i donated it to my dad lol

if you wanted AMD, but not an APU then something like this, the cheap gt210 would do, just no stock
