Where else to buy skirting?

In our bedroom we've removed a cupboard which sat in the alcove of the chimney breast, so I need some skirting. I went to B&Q and couldn't quite find what I need.

The skirting in the majority is Victorian, but it seems like the previous owner managed to make an almost perfect match by using a square edged / flat 145mm x 20mm board topped with another piece of skirting which is 100mm x 15mm.

Where's the best place to be sourcing skirting from? It's nothing intricate and B&Q do sell the smaller piece I need, albeit too tall but I imagine they could cut it down.
 
Thanks MrBaz... I think in terms of the smaller piece, I can do that sure. Just wondering where I could buy something that is 20mm thick and at least 145mm. I'll do some more googling.
 
Travis Perkins and Howdens have a fair selection of skirting boards, have a look on their website to see what is available from them. Don't know how much outside of the usual OG / toros styles they go but they should all be listed on their websites!

edit- this seems perfect. Bit more expensive but can buy it pre-painted etc. ideal.

I've bought about £2k worth of skirting and architrave from them so far. My first order was damaged by the courier so they immediately sent out 4 full lengths of skirting as replacements and told me to keep the damaged bits. Excellent customer service, will definitely be using again.
 
Thanks @eidolon, I was a bit put off at first when two pieces of skirting which started out at £5.50 came to £49, but for the simplicity, the saving of time etc. I'm just going to put up with it.
 
If you need a piece of wood to specific dimensions in order to make your replacement skirting to match a timber merchant will have the planer and thicknesser to do this for you but they will charge for the additional operations away from standard. If you know any wood workers there is a very good chance they will have the bandsaw and planer/thicknesser to do this from a standard board.

That was my logic too. I could've saved money by painting the skirting myself but I went for the pre-painted option which has saved me loads of time.

I actually meant to say that I only discovered the damage to my skirting about 3 months after it was delivered. I've been fully renovating the house so the skirting had just been sat in a room and when I came to use it and discovered the damage I fully expected Skirting4u to say tough luck, you've had the skirting for months so you must've damaged it yourself. Instead they apologised and immediately sorted replacements which I thought was fantastic service.

Great thanks, great suggestion. OK, I've got both options to play with now.

Thanks again on that @eidolon, paying the extra to save either me or my partner having to sort it, just seems worthwhile.
 
Sometimes the best solution it just to cough up that little bit more and savecthe hours of mucking about, in the past I've always used real wood skirting and primed undercoated etc myself but on our recent kitchen extension I got pre primed mdf so much easier to work with and quicker to finish and nobody will ever even notice the difference!
 
Dead right, @a1ex2001 , just put it that way to my partner. Said, do we nip to B&Q, buy something that is not quite right, hang around, get it trimmed then go back (hiring a zipvan most likely as 3m won't go on the tube as we don't have a car), prime it and paint it etc. when for £50 it can be delivered to my door exactly as specified.

I didn't mention, this is going to be covered (in the majority) by a wardrobe in the alcove :o
 
If you request a free skirting sample they will send you a discount code in with your sample (they did for me anyway, got 10% off one time and free delivery another time)
 
Unfortunately, due to H&S regs places like B&Q and Homebase cannot cut Treated timbers and or timbers under 9" in width due to the guide raises on their timber saws.
 
Ah, well that definitely puts me firmly in the skirting4u camp. Ordered my samples yesterday.
 
Was going to say, if you buy from b&q get it early, prime it, then lay it flat and weight it down, every piece of skirting/timber I’ve ever had to buy from there has been warped to hell!!
