So im looking to part ex my 911 to a dealer (im fully expecting it to be a cheeky offer). Is there anything i need to know about it as ive never had to do it before? Also how thoroughly are they likely to check over the car (not that its in a state).

Why not sell private on Pistonheads and get far more money for it? Or is it broken hence the question of how well will they check over it lol

If they’re going to go straight to auction, you’ll get a low offer but they won’t check the car over with a fine toothed comb. Have you called them to see what they would be prepared to offer? I called up first both times I’ve part exchanged and have got the agreed value without issue. The only time I haven’t is when I didn’t actually proceed to buying the car and the dealer was a proper dodgy dealer.

Its not broken but since i booked the test drive (and coinciding with the snow) my fob has decided it no longer wants to lock/unlock the car and i cant open the bonnet from eith the fob or the button in the car (altho ive not had chance to check this in detail due to kids and weather holding me back).

FWIW im looking at an M4 for £34,000 and my max cost to change is £7,500 (any higher and i think my wife would kill me). Does that seem like a reasonable amount i would get? Other than that, the car is in fantastic condition.

I think it's mineral grey (I'm sure doncaster have a black one too). The only spec I really really want is hud (mail due to me being a nerd). I just hope they will give me what I want. I wasn't sure whether to tell them in advance or just surprise them on Sunday, any ideas what's best?

So you’re asking a dealer to give you £26,500 for a 105k 911? IIRC you’ve got a 996, is that right? Regardless of whether it’s a 996 or 997 you’re asking for a pretty large discount off their sticker price.

Make sure its looking shiny. Don't volunteer information about things you think are wrong with it. You don't want to give them a reason to knock down the price. As far as you know it works fine.

I gave them a call in advance. Must admit their part ex values were very poor. They offered me 1.5k less for my car than porsche did. Which was still about 3.5k below what it would sell for privately and 5k below forecourt prices.

You’re probably not far off if it’s a turbo in that case. Depends on how much you want that M4! What’s prompted you to change?

The main reason is I feel the kids are outgrowing it. My daughter is 4 and her feet tuck under my seat when I'm driving (there's no way I could fit in the passenger seat) and it's a bit of a pain to go out as a family. It is an amazing car, I think an m4 that's already a few years old won't be too bad, I'm not sure a 100000 mile Porsche will appreciate I think it might stay static though but the maintenance will be higher on the Porsche than the m4.

Keep the Porsche, spend the £7.5k on a used Civic.

I’ve found the best thing to do is to go in and have a chat (after phoning in to get an initial price) both times ive done this. Go in and have a look at your new car that you want, maybe a test drive if they allow it, then sit down for “the chat” for my 2 previous cars when it got down to the finance side of things I said no I’m sorry this won’t work needs to be closer to X and they disappear “to speak to there manager” and come back with something that you had more in mind. Garages are desperate to sell cars, well seen to be where I’m from and you will be surprised at the discount that they can give you by simply turning up interested and then saying no at the finance part. Seems they would do anything to keep me in the seat. Raised there enitial offer for my car by 2k, doubled the dealership contribution deposit and lowered my monthly payments by £140 even lowered the interest rate. Can easily see people getting hard done by if there not to sure or haven done it before

To the poster above, i cant justify running 2 cars, i like a car i can use for commuting and picking the kids up from nursery (hence the 911 dilemma). I am already booked in for a test drive but i might give them another ring just incase they need to ring anyone about my car.

You'd get more for this car privately than you might think. 911 Turbo residuals are extremely strong, even 6 figure mileage examples.

Buying a cheap temporary car whilst the 911 is on the market and using that as a deposit once the 911 has sold might actually make more sense and get the OP a better deal. It’s amazing what dealers will give even for a total wreck!

I guess it depends how good this particular M4 is and how much OP absolutely needs to jump in now. If it’s a bog standard M4 I can’t see there being a great shortage of them.
