2010 VW Polo 1.6 TDI -- Clutch Upgrade?

Hey there,
Couldn't find the mighty VW / Amazing Polo owners thread so apologies for that.

I've got a VW Polo 1.6 TDI remapped from 75 to 145 (or so) in March last year, it's done about 10k miles since then at least and it's now at 88k so probably on it's first replacement now.

Does anybody know if there are any decent clutch upgrades to go for?

Been quoted 750 for standard clutch, DMF, master cylinder and labour.

As far as I can see; this looks a good buy, but I don't know my VW's and will probably need to give them a call to see if it's the right one for the car. Anybody used Darkside stuff before or have alternate recommendations?

FWIW: I don't know about diesels aka DMFs nor about clutch upgrades in particular - never had to get one done!

Almost double the power from a remap? Really?
A quick google found this: https://www.celtictuning.co.uk/serv...i-cr-73-bhp-2009-ECU-remap-chiptuning/stage-3
More than double actually, but probably you have to change air intake and exhaust

Back to the topic, well the description from the clutch you linked looks nice, but you will probably get some vibration and increased noise.
IF your car still have the original clutch and could handle that mileage and power without slipping, I would probably go for the OEM one.

Similar gains on the low-powered 2.0 BMW units.
(perhaps not double, but massive gains in any case)

True, but then BMW released that engine in a wider range of power outputs, where the 1.6 TDI didn't officially go any higher than, what, 115bhp?

Just surprised me, that's all :)

Your post doesn't mention if it NEEDS a clutch, does it? is it slipping?

They won't be using a specific clutch made for 75hp in this car, it's probably the same clutch they use in the GTI to lower costs.

No idea if it does or doesn't I'm honest, I've never had to have a clutch replaced on any of my cars so not familiar with the issue.

Prior to the issue it was slipping at speed, yeah - so presumably that is clutch then rather than a DMF issue.

It's currently in a state can put it in any gear, let off the clutch pedal entirely and it doesn't move. Takes a bit of feathering at around 1300rpm to get it moving with probably a top speed of a few mph.. any more or less and it goes nowhere.

It's on 88k so if the DMF is off then for a couple hundred quid might as well put in a clutch?

New clutch time without a doubt.

Yeah they've actually got back to me and said the standard clutch is good for up to 200 unless the map is harsh.

It's not a proper custom map so wasn't dyno'd or have a printout, but the torque curve doesn't feel overly ridiculous (as best as I could possibly tell!)

Guess I'll be going down the route of OEM parts and see how it fares.

From what I can tell it's not had a clutch/DMF at all in its lifetime (now at 88k), but receipts could've easily been left out.

It would be very strange for a 2010 car with only 88k to have already had a clutch change unless it was constantly driven in traffic by someone who can't drive :p

Sounds like it'd be best just to get it changed with OEM

That’s stage 3 with supporting mods that doubles the bhp and probably costs about 1k for all the work.
Op has a single stage 1 remap which takes it up to a mighty 88bhp which is about right for a low powered diesel with no mods.

It was mapped to a supposed 145. Whilst there's no print out or paper proof, I can tell it's definitely far more than 88 if I'm honest.
All the places we checked did state there's no mods needed to reach that.

Read it, Stage 1 and 2 are the other factory maps for the 1.6tdi which is mechanically identical across the range. Stage 3 is their performance map but requires no supporting hardware modifications.

Other companies just supply the 145bhp spec as their Stage 1 as it's software only.
